My only addition to this thread is that if FWD is so superior to RWD, then why are police cars RWD?

 that is a funny thing to say, cause in NYC 70% of cop cars are FWD

fwd, awd, rwd are all have individual downsides. If you don't feel comfortable in the snow so be it, you are better off not behind the wheel than behind. This is the third time I have gotten into and accident in the snow where it wasn't my fualt. Yet I still drive in the snow, fwd, awd , rwd can each have you be a victim of uncontrollable variable like a car that is outta control coming towards you.

Best advice is to get appropriate tires and drive safe. If you like to play in the snow like some of us do  go have fun but be careful

hey this discussion is for ass... why are formula 1 cars RWD?
Why have german police cars FWD in the north and in bavaria RWD?

Thats no difference. You can drive with FWD cars as good as with RWD cars.

                so... :wgaf:

                  No offense, Andre = OWNED.
Just give up man, it is possible for people to drive E30's in the snow. Not everyone has 2 feet of snow. If you wanna drive 4WD cars or FWD, go for it. But don't criticize people who are able to safety travel on snowy roads in RWD cars.

RWD cars OWN. :D Maybe that's why this is an E30 site, not an Honda one. If you like FWD, get a Honda. RWD owns you.

My parents used to say FWD is better in the rain. Why? They thought I was a novice driver, and you know what? At 16 i was. But I've grown up. I can handle a 325is with chip on stock tires in the pouring rain if i need to. (And with 205 ES100's, it is a JOKE - so easy!) The same goes for the guys on this board who choose to drive in the snow.

To battle snow, you should have proper tires and SKILL. If you don't, drive an Audi, but don't HATE!

whats better then paying 500 bucks for snow tires, buying a jeep with 4 wheel drive for 500.00 . 92 jeep runs like a champ

I think the reasoning behind this is 1) Stability at speed 2) Durability 3) Overall size of interior with all there crap in it. get in a Lumina based police car (big Joke) 4) Major manufacters give big discounts on them.

There are towns in Vermaont that have both Volvo's and Saab's. And one way back in the 80's chased me for miles in a Dodge 600ES sedan with no light bar I just thought he was so idiot that I pissed off. I was running my Pumpkin Orange 73 Mercury Capri that some Army Warrant officer brought back from Germany. It was a 3.4 mechanical FI V6 that I put a SVO rear end in.

You are going to be what, 19 in January? How many driving schools have you done? How much have you really driven your e30, with a broken rocker arm? You're currently drving some buick arent you?

I'm willing to gaurentee you still are a novice driver. Hell I teach people how to slide their cars, and I KNOW in the full spectrum I am still a novice. Arrogant attitude like that is what will make your car a great parts car....

Ask almost any serious racer, and even they will tell you they are still working on their skills. Bottom line, I am willing to wager any pro driver could plant anyone of our asses in a stock 325is and scare the shit out of us.
                          Below the radar...

You guys should try get a ride with an experienced guy at an auto-x or track event whether or not you are participating...trust me its worth it. ;) There are distinctions between over-confidence, inexperience and miscalculations. If you have speed, try watch the New Zeland Targa Rally or download clips and you will see a HUGE DIFFERENCE between professional racing and amateur vs slightly advanced driving. WRC drivers, Touring Car drivers and the likes are kick ass

                                Nick and Chris are right.
E-30's go fine in the snow with snow tires..you just have to drive careful.
I have bmw steel wheels with bmw hubcaps mounted on new snow tires...driving in the snow isn't bad. I drove to my g/f's friday night during the northeastern storm. No problem. I also took the snowcovered back roads all the way there cos there is no cars, no SALT ..resulting in no brown sludge on my car
I hate to get my car dirty.

The only issue i see right now is that my "IS" lip is too low to the ground for the snow.
                                I need to buy a " I " Lip ASAP. ( I'm looking for a used one)
ONCE DEC 31 hits..no more internship + no more E30 winter driving :) The green machiene (aka 97 dodge caravan) comes out for when I have to leave campus.

                                later..
