I was just wondering why the Euro grills have a smaller opening for airflow to the radiator. The US ones are wide open, but the Euro ones have part of it blocked off. Can someone please enlighten me?

It looks to me that half of it is just blocked off. I can't imagine it forcing any extra air into the radiator the way it is. I am debating whether or not to just cut it open for the extra air like the US grills. Anyone done this?Originally posted by kencopperwheatI thought that it forced all of the air right into the radiator... Comment

I don't see the point. My car ran no different because the set of grilles I had on the car.Originally posted by erik325iIt looks to me that half of it is just blocked off. why? I've had euro grilles for almost 3 years and my car has never overheated. actually I've heard people say that your car will run cooler with them.Originally posted by erik325iIt looks to me that half of it is just blocked off. I dont see any difference in the side grilles on mine compared to the 85 eta ones. THe only difference is the center grille which is half blocked but the 318s have that so I think it has something to do with no AC or the smaller motor, usually they are 318s and 316s in europe so most euro grilles are 4banger grilles.

AFAIK the only real difference is the top slat and the hole for hte citylights.Im now E30less.

In a previous thread Eurospeed88 said:I just don't see how blocking off part of the grill will increase airflow to the radiator. It is not like the blocked off part is sloped, so it redirects the air... it is just flat, and as far as I can guess, just blocks off air.The Euro-spec grills are blocked off more in different areas in order to direct more airflow into the radiator.
It probably won't make much of a difference either way, but I just don't get it. Comment

I was just going by what I've been told by numerous people.Originally posted by erik325iIn a previous thread Eurospeed88 said:I just don't see how blocking off part of the grill will increase airflow to the radiator. It's serioulsy not that big of a deal. I've had both sets of grilles on E30's, and neither one made any noticeable difference. But you guys can placebo yourselves all you want, whatever makes you happy. :DComment

Yeah, I've never heard of anyone overheating because of a Euro grill. I was just wondering why BMW would block off part of the grill in the Euro ones, but not the US.Originally posted by Eurospeed88I was just going by what I've been told by numerous people.Originally posted by erik325iIn a previous thread Eurospeed88 said:I just don't see how blocking off part of the grill will increase airflow to the radiator. THE INTERNET SPREADS MISINFORMATION. THANKS FOR HELPING JOSH!

The blocking off is for non-A/C cars. Cars with A/C should not run these blocked off'ed grills for the sheer 3ur0H props.
Greg never sold the blocked off center grills for that reason.

Just use the Euro side grills. They look better. And have a city lite slot. YAY!
