Blacked Out Kidneys: Why?

I do like the Blacked out look on some E30's BUT I wouldn't do it to mine. I see the chrome on the kidney grill being the same as a brand name badge. You see that shape and KNOW its a BMW. It makes my heart beat a little faster just seeing that shape. -
Ehh it's not that bad. It's not like it peels off. The clips on my grill broke (or were broken when i got the car which is more likely) and someone gave me a set for free a bit over a year ago. I just rattle canned them black and they have no chips in about 10k of driving, just a few small nicks from tools and working on my engine with the hood off.Leave a comment:

no. it won't stick to the chrome. you can get them already made in black, the ebay ones are actually nice quality (or at least they were last time I bought a set like 4 years ago).Leave a comment:

Do people paint the chrome kidneys to black or would you not recommend it?Leave a comment:

Not reading the whole thread, but I say it comes down to the bumpers. If you have euro bumpers or db's chrome looks good late/M black looks betterLeave a comment:

Their are few cars that can pull off black Kidneys.
Its a disgrace to the E30. All these blacked out kidney grills look stupid.Leave a comment:

I agree with a lot of the other posters - it is iconic on the E30. However, on some cars, like some of the black/dark grey ones posted, the black out kidneys can look bad ass. Mine is white, and I like the chrome.Leave a comment:

It looks good on lighter colored e30's. Colored kidney grills look like ass. Don't color match, it looks super tackyLeave a comment:
