    Blacked Out Kidneys: Why?

I know questioning ascetics is ridiculous, especially in the car world, but there is one change I commonly see on E30's that I can't accept.

Why do people black out the kidneys?

I feel as if this single act ruins some of the otherwise best looking E30s. Color-matched kidneys aren't all that bad, but blacking them feels like it's taking away a necessary part of the BMW character.

Am I insane or does this bother others?

You should very well be right. Mine are blacked out but only because mine were severely discolored and pitted. However, I often ponder buying new chrome kidney's.

the kidneys are the one piece of chrome that looks good on every e30 no matter what
What it feels like owning an e30:

I did the same flip flopping routine on my old red e30 too though. I would agree that it looks better on the e36s.

I completely agree. It ruins the look of an e30 when they are blacked out.
I think it's one of those things people do just because they want to modify more things for the sake of modifying, not because it actually looks good.

Because how else can you have a car that looks like shit, that's why.

I'm trying to buy an E36 ATM and the number of blacked out kidneys are astounding.

Whenever I was looking at E30's for me or my girl, the second I saw black kidneys I just thought of it being owned by some 16 year old who treated it like shit.

Pretty much. Bugs the shit out of me when I see an otherwise clean car with blacked out kidneys and stupid lights.

imo, if done correctly and tastefully it can make for a more aggressive look.
