I am just finishing up reupholstering my 88 325iC seats. I did both front sports and back bench. I redid them is the same navy leather they came with. I needed a 55 sq ft hide to do the back, and a 60 sq ft one to do both fronts. Try Tandy leather (they are in just about every state). They have "seconds" upholstery hides for about $100 each. They are seconds as they have flaws (like holes from barbed wire) here and there in the hide and therefore can't be used for sofas, etc. But for autos they are great, as you cut small pieces anyway and just work around the flaws. You can also try hidehouse.com in CA. They had similar "alpha" hides for about $4 per square foot. "Pleather" runs about $50 a yard, and vinyl $15-$20, but both are vinyl products and do cold crack. Besides, who wants to say they have vinyl seats when you can have leather for nearly the same price. You can get supplies (foam, padding, thread, hogrings and pliers) at Gilbreath's (upholstersupply.com I think it is). You can limp along with a home sewing machine (but need special needles).
I'm also redoing the bolsters in my M6, as the rest of the seats are fine. I got contrasting leather so I don't have to worry about matching - for $20 at Tandy if you can believe it!
I have a pic I can email you if interested (or if anyone can tell me a site to upload it to, I can post it here).

Cheapest quote I had locally was $600 per front seat for leather. I guess if you feel capable you should save some money and do it yourself.

Every one of thier kits fits loose and sloppy. As such I think they are greatly overpriced. I'll pass thanks
            Jordan,
The kits fit, if the customer does not take their time to stretch and work the leather or material then the seats wont look factory. It also depends on the condition of the injection molded foam in the seats. We use twice as much padding then OEM so the centers will be much bulkier. It may be cheaper in a small town in Oregon but around Atlanta you can not have 2 E30 seats done in premimum leather for under $1500.00. I will show you a set of M3 seats we are doing for a customer and you will see the difference. He wants them done in 3 weeks. A $750.00 shipped DYI premium leather kit or $525 OEM vinyl kit is not overpriced... Premium Black leather only, right now is only $650.00

The pictures on your very own site speak for themselfs, i dont understand how you think your words hide the fact that they dont fit or look good.

And now you are taking a shot at Oregon eh? I dont live in a small town. fuck you.

                Dude,
I am not ripping on your town, compared to Atlanta, I am sure it is smaller.
I am not hiding behind any words, with over 50 kits in less than a year and no complaints speak for themselves. As far as the pics go the only ones that I did are on my car, and they fit like a glove. I had problems on a few bolsters due to the fact they were torn and I had to rebuild them with foam. The other sample is one a customer did. I am sure prices vary from State to State.......

Just the ones in my car..............

You will notice the top of the center section on the drivers side came loose and it has since been fixed. I have done home upholstery before and this is my 4th set that I personally did. I do not claim to be a professional this is just a side business for me.

Here is a before/after pic of the seats I did myself (see my reply a couple back). No pro job for sure, but for $300 all in with quality upholstery leather I'm happy. Of course, its a ton of labor, so that kit the other dude is talking about seems fair to me.

Good job they look great. I can usually sew a full kit in about 8hrs. I guess it really depends how much is your time worth and how perfect do you have to have it..........

Where are you in KY, I graduated Architecture school about 10 yrs ago. As far as the kits go I belive they are Katskin kits and if they are I have heard 2 complaints: 1. The whole kit is not leather, only where you sit and 2. They do not have a factory look when you are done, more like what you would see in a Honda. It really depends what you like..................
