A seat might help if you were hit from behind, but in a crash like that, there is almost no stress put on the seat what so ever except from your body pushing on it. Not to mention, in a rollover that is bad enough to push the roof down as low as your head and into the seat, I doubt any seat would do very much in protecting you.
What if your hit and the seat belt clip rips off the seat?, rear ended and the seat breaks in half? What if the frame of the seat breaks and dosnt stay on the floor?

You haven't seen the brackets we built for these things. 1' x 1/4" flatbar steel, and the tab that the seat belt receivers bolt to are made of the same stock, welded to the brackets.

Besides, what's to stop your 20 year-old stock seats from doing the same thing? To be perfectly honest, I trust the structural integrity of these seats much more than a seat that's been bent, tweaked and possibly broken (like many of them are) from being jumped in and out of for 20 years. These may be cheap seats, but they frames are pretty well made. They're very strong, and they don't move around nearly at all in the car, even when moving around in them.

I'll probably sell them this summer, and get the seats I REALLY want.

goddam you josh, you want the same seats i want. BTW your interior is hella fuckin clean.

On topic. Those ebay seats in the link don't look like they have enough thigh support. Actually, i think a sport seat would offer much better support.

Yeah, Matt barely ever drives his car.

Josh, if you were to professionally have those seats covered in leather it would cost more than buying real Recaros in leather from the factory.

Wouldn't be professionally done. I can get the leather at cost, and my in-laws own a shoe repair and leather shop, wtih their help I could probably do a pretty good job myself. But that's beside the point, like I said, I'm probably going to sell them soon to get the Corbeau's.

I have these exact Ebay seats (I bought from that same seller on Ebay). The only complaint I have so far is that the material will wear quickly. Other than that, they're fine. They aren't uncomfortable and hold me in well. My E30 isn't my daily driver.

save your money and buy good stuff. those ebay seats are junk and unsafe. when you put it into the back of someones car or a wall and the backs snap like saltine crackers your spine wont think they were that great of a deal. quality costs and theres a reason good seats are 600-800 a side

Engineering and safety testing are two reasons you pay more for a name-brand aftermarket seat. You cannot deny that Recaro, Cobra and Sparco (among the others) both extensively safety test every model they offer.

Don't buy the cheap ebay seats. I used to have a similar set of seats that I bought on ebay, and I am glad I sold them. They are not comfy, and they aren't very supportive. They hold you about as good as the stock sport seats.

When I bought the M5 the stock driver seat had broke, and the previous owner put a cheap aftermarket seat like those ebay ones in so I could drive the car home (from TX). About a week later I found and purchased the correct M5 seat to go back in.
My thing was that the seat sat waaaayyyy too low. Im about 6 ft tall, and I felt like a 6 year old child trying to see over the steering wheel. Do you guys have this problem that put those cheap seats in, or is the E30 different?
Also, will those ebay seats go forward to allow people to be able to get in back. Id be pretty pointless having a 4 seater car if people could never get in back with out climbing over your shit...

That's actually my favorite thing about them. I'm 6' 1", and in the sport seats, my head is almost touching the roof, I have about 1" of clearance. With these, I've got plenty of headroom, and the driving position is much more comfortable.

I'm 6'2" and even with a helmet on I still have plenty of headroom in my sport seats.. maybe the M3 versions go lower or something?

I'm 6'0 and my Corbeau's pretty much lock my head in place, they feel a bit higher than my stockers (non sport)

I think it's because my helmet is enormous though.
