To stretch the foam out I sprayed some adhesive on the bottom then tossed some sandbags on top to hold it in place until the adhesive dries enough to hold it

Took out sand. Had to make a couple of relief cuts in foam and fill with scrap bits. Not bad overall.

Progress. Have some more trimming to do and just put my center console in to do a little visualizing. The fitment on the passenger side trans tunnel isn't great but hopefully once it gets warm the carpet will become a bit more pliable and fill out that spot. A bit frustrating but I wasn't expecting a perfect fit. The worst part was the driver side heel pad. The heel pad doesn't account for where the gas pedal meets the floor and I had to cut into the rubber pad to make a slot for it. Seems a bit nonsensical but again...non oem so a few dumb things like that are expected. Sure does look better in black than the original faded and nasty carpet.

nice work man! looks great. what spray adhesive are you using? im going to by a can. i just started a thread of my own diy as well. think well be the first to install these with full updates. i lack images though. great progress!sigpic

Thank you for the positive comments. It's hard taking photos and videos as it slows the progress down significantly but I know it will be helpful for future projects. I had to halt what I was doing as the carpet I got had the heel pad installed incorrectly so I'm waiting on a replacement. Should be here tomorrow then I'll be back at it. Please provide a link to your thread so others can follow yours also. Pm me also. I'd like to text you about it and stay in touch along the way so we can both benefit from twice as much useful info.

Sorry. I forgot your request. There are several adhesives on the market. I always prefer 3M products. this can came from Home Depot. Good medium strength adhesive. Bonds quickly but it's also a bit forgiving if you make a mistake and need to peel apart. Maybe cost $10.

Actually I have too much padding turns out. I'm going to hog out the areas where there's too much and it should fit better. The carpets you get from stock interiors.com are an exact mold of the floor pans with no padding. So when you add padding it has a way of allowing "baggy" areas. I think I have figured out where to take from for a better fit. Attempt #2 starting this weekend.

The official "DIY replace your whole interior INCLUDING carpet" thread
Got to work last night. Had basically the entire interior to put back in. While filming does slow things down considerably, I was still able to make good progress, including remounting the dash, and all controls, including the lower panels on driver side. Glove box was a killer. I fiddled with that for a while until I realized that my glove box is busted (the back part) and I'll either need a replacement or fix current one. I'll get to that down the road. Low priority. I still have the center storage piece to install and center console, as well as my dash pod and steering column components. Got a new Mtech wheel which is a considerable upgrade over the old airbag wheel that was delaminated and felt cheap and flimsy.

I thought that also...but I believe all the extra padding should have moved the heelpad BACK...not forward. I sent the company a photo of the carpet and they told me the heelpad was glued incorrectly so they sent me a brand new carpet...only when the new carpet arrived, the heelpad was even further FORWARD! At that point I was just too impatient to complain and deal with waiting another week for a replacement carpet so I just installed it. The heelpad needs to be installed about 2-3" behind where they keep putting it. I'll make due, however, as it's somewhat trivial since the floormats cover the heelpad anyway. The only time I'll have the floormats out and will notice it is when doing track days or autocross.Comment
