Yea. I used plumbers tape ( thin metal ) for the braces. If anything i can adjust the projector its self.

thanks man. Read up on HIDplanet.com and see what projectors better suit you. I might do a retro on my GF's corolla for the lolz and use the Morimoto H1's since they are basically plug and play with no modding.

FX-R retrofit

I just bought a set of US ellipsoids and wanting to do this 1st gen FX-R mod soon. My night vision is terrible so this is pretty much a must do modification for me.
I've got a pretty good understanding of everything involved but would like to see some more pics of the cut plastic housing. Also what is the best tool to cut the back of the housing open? The fiberglassing method that Wh33lhop used looks promising and also considering the plastic bumper repair epoxy.

I've done an M50 swap and a ton of mods on top of that but this looks like one of the most useful mods I've seen.

I'm going to say, the best cutting tool for this mod is probably a DREMEL, has lots of bits to choose from. Also as a word of advise, make sure to water sand and clear coat your glass lenses on the ellipsoids. They tend to have a lot of pitting from 20+ years of road wear, as mentioned per e30trooper they can make the light output suck.

Got an older Dremel tool with some different bits so can probably make a go of it with that.
I just bought 4 oz of Cerium Oxide Rock/Glass Polish. Will need to do some research on how to polish glass with it. Do you have to use sandpaper with it or is the cerium oxide by itself enough to get the lens clearer?

My understanding is that Ceruim is used as a final polish on telescope mirrors. Probably not useful for removing scratches, pits, etc. The idea is to remove these anomalies and then polish with Cerium Oxide.

I was studying this retrofit tutorial today and it seems like a lot of extra work,
so pondering just cutting the plastic housing completely flush and then making an aluminum adapter plate that the FX-R projector screws down to flush.
I think it would have a better seal, look cleaner and take less hackery to accomplish the same thing...

Its not to much work..

before anything or any cutting or modding, you need to find out or buy your xenon projector. In the Link you posted, that's a TSX non bi-xenon projector. Every projector is different in size/light out put.

How critical is the spacing of the FX-R projector assembly in the housing as far as how deep in it goes? That looks like the hardest part to me is getting the depth spacing and the angle of the projector mounted correctly.

I have mine 1mm from the headlight lens. Yea my set up now is FX-R 1st gen , DDM's Raptor 55w ballast/ds2 connector and Phillips 85122 ( not the + ) and the output is amazing. I will be dropping my shitty ballast from some OEM's soon.

Was.. The lights started to bounce alot when I hit any bumps. I made metal brackets to hold the lights in place. No more bonce buddy.
