i had an occasion to ride in my friends 540 the other weekend. he drives at a reasonably high rate of speed most of the time (avg 120mph in traffic). we were going down the highway and there was someone in front of us in the left lane going 50-55mph, my friend simply flashed the highbeams, and they promptly stood on their brakes. he then proceeded to pass them on the shoulder, (at which point they floored it to prevent this, 540-vs-camry, they got owned) and then cut them off and stood on the brakes at about 70mph, they almost rear-ended us, and then we took off. they of course tried to follow us, but there are few cars that can pull from 35mph to 140mph at the same rate as a 540.

in short, my friend does drive like an asshole. people automatically assume your an asshole because you have a BMW. people treating him this way has turned him into an asshole, because he never drove this way before, even when he had a much faster car.

ok. so last night i was not equipped with my flashing brake light. i was racing a civic si (a decent car btw) and were doin about a buck ten down a 4 lane freeway when some dickfuck in the slow lane flashed his brights. the race was long enough as is, so i cut the gas, hit the brake and i went from light speed to fuckin a turtle walk. i mean i had cars flippin me the bird to hold this assclown back. guess what, he was in a f250. sounds to me like small cock syndrome? i didnt think he expected me to slow down and give him shit. a few miles up the freeway there is a offramp/onramp thing goin on, so i cut over and killed the lights so he couldnt see, and he sped up and drove off... i think he shit his pants when the little black car he flashed was right on his ass with the brights on... then again he jumped off that road through the grass (a cowrun is what we call it) and got back on heading the other direction. but i was thinking to myself the whole time.... *if only i had a flash with me, if only*.

my whole point is that he does drive like an asshole, but other drivers don't make it any better.

for instance, say one was driving in the left lane doing 75mph in a 60mph zone, no drivers in front of, no drivers following. someone in the center lane sees you coming, and decides to get in front of you and continue at 60mph. not really a problem, correct?

except, there is no-one in front of them either, and they see "some asshole speeding in their bmw" and decide to play captain safety and make you slow down.

How many times has this actually happened? I've been driving a BMW for about 7 years and have never had someone treat me differently on the road because of it, but maybe that's because I don't drive like an asshole. And yes, it is possible to drive quickly without driving like an asshole...

i am aware of this, when i drive my tercel i have passed loads of people at 120mph plus without anyone flashing their lights or blowing their horn. when i was driving my e30, at normal highway speeds, people would see me coming, and if their lane was traveling more slowly, purposefully get in front of me and maintain the same speed as the lane they were just in.
several times, i have come on an onramp in the e30, and had people in all types of cars floor it to prevent me from merging.

maybe its because i'm young and drive a nicer car then they do.
