wow so freaking difficult, im new to the e30 world and have been trying to follow this forrum. ok my bmr has the h4 on it. i know that much but they seem like normal dang light blulbs. there not like xenon or anything. can someone break it down in very freaking basik talk to me. My bulbs are all kinda fadded and i want to get new front lights. it would look much nicer. Plus around the edge on the h4's its kinda rusting or something. just looks real shitty. do any of these light bulbs compare to xenon? can some one pleae break it down for me? thanks guys

Try and formulate your posts like regular English. It makes them much easier to read and understand.

You most likely have the sealed beam headlights. Everything we were talking about in the beginning of this thread were lenses. Upgrades for sealed beam would be anything that fits. The cheap way are H4 housings that accept different bulbs. Hella makes some in DE code that will be great light off the bat.

There is no such thing as a traditional bulb that can compare with HID (what you know as Xenon). Any halogen bulb that even mentions Xenon or HID on the package is junk. The only thing to buy are pink package Sylvanias or OSRAM Silverstars if you have Euro code lenses.

HID (or Xenon) is a system that operates like a flourescent bulb. It has a ballast and a bulb with no filament. An arch heats the gas till it begins to emit light. My HID kit is literally twice as bright as the best 55watt halgogen bulb you can get (OSRAM Silverstar).
            Im now E30less.

The HID is also more than twice as expensive ;)

Does anyone know where I can buy Euro elips in Canada? Also, you you guys buy new or used?

Ryan (Slowered) and Julian (Gamite) both bought their Hella smoked ellips new locally, and they were like $750. Crazy. If you want them absolutely perfect (any used set will have some degree of pitting) you have no other choice though.

thanks for the info ryan. my headlights are not sealed beams. i went to the parts store last night and we took a look at them. you can replace the bulb from the back of it. they were telling me i should get the silverstars. i will admit they dont know much about euro stuff. they all so said that if i put the hid or xenon lights in my car that it would probably melt the plastic around the bulb and they also pulled more current. when you do a xenon swap do you replace the driving lights and hi beams? can you get xenon fog lights too? or hid..

With the pics of the sealed beams posted, are they diffused lenses or diffused filaments or not? If they arent it explains why the beam is directed. I dont have a problem on mine, the low beam pair are good, high beam are 150w each, you can see for miles. Ill stick a battery in it and move the car tomorrow and get a pic.
Just a little project im working on

I was checking around and I have seen two types of OSRAM H4's. There are the regular silverstars, and now I am seeing OSRAM H4 cool blue bulbs which claim to be 20% brighter than standard. Does anybody have any experience with the cool blue version, and could offer a comparison to the standard silverstar version?

I would figure since they were OSRAM brand and supposedly a newer product, that they might have improved on the existing silverstar design, but I've never heard of anyone on the forums mention them...

The blue crap is 20% brighter than regular, but the Silverstars are 50% brighter than regular.
