    Headlight Question

I am slightly embarrassed to ask this question, but here goes:

What type of headlights are these? Are they something unique?

    "Bullseyes" - https://www.e30zone.net/e30wiki/index.php/Lights
For one year, 1988, a lamp was fitted that contained the projection lens but without the cutout. These lamps are known as "bullseyes".
They are common in US 1987-1989 models, but with different bulbs.

They are not the same as US ellipsoids as noted above. US ellipsoids don't have city lights and do have DOT glass.

      They are non-smiley Euro ellipsoids.

This, the PO probably changed them. We had nonsmiley Ellipsoids in the for a few years and would look like these but they are not exactly the same.

I got an answer back from the person I bought the car from. He says: "Did you know the headlights on your car were only produced in 1988? They're called bullseye headlights. Later models had smiley headlights."

I'm hoping he'll weigh in here with more info.
