If you could... make a small box for a JL 6w0. Skinny but long. Bolt it to the metal under the parcel shelf and have the 6w0 fire up through one of the rear speaker holes and have the port go out the other speaker hole. 6w0's cost about $80 I believe. Box would cost you about $30-40 if you buy a whole sheet of 3/4" MDF and glue and 1 5/8" drywall screws. Then you would need something to cut out the hole for the speaker and to predrill the screw holes. So a total cost of around $120 even after installation. It wouldnt take up hardly any space at all. It could be removable too if you really had to take it out and it would sound awesome and blend well with the front stage as well.

would it still fit in the application mentioned above?

also.. how it would it sound if instead of a ported box you did two 6's in a sealed box. and mounted it up there?

Yeah, you could probably still do it like that. Don't put subs in sealed boxes. The 8" is going to give you much better response at lower frequencies.

dont put subs in sealed boxes?
I was always under the impression a sealed box was better for clean response than a ported box? Size is also a concern...

Uh oh, you have now upset Ken, Jordan, and Luke. They treat ported boxes like they come standard with cancer.

IFF (if and only if) you build a ported box correctly, it will give you much better response at lower frequencies. If any schmo builds a ported box, it will probably sound like shit because you have to build them perfectly and specific to the woofer. That is, a poorly constructed sealed box will sound much better than a poorly constructed ported box. If you're going to use an 8" woofer you're going to want to get as much frequency response below 80Hz as possible, thus a ported box is going to be your best bet.

I had the same intention as you, to get some more bass without the boominess and weight of a sub. Even though I'm running the rest of the components off of the deck, and that much power to the midbasses, I can barely even hear them. I am convinced the only other way to get bass is to put 8" subs in the rear deck or rear quarter panels.
Take out your 6.5" speaker. Put a good layer of dynamat on the metal. Put a large piece of carpet padding over the dynamat. Put the speaker back.

It'll make a world of difference, my feet rattle in my shoes.

i know what its purpose is, why the hell does it make your bass sound thunderous out of fucking nowhere, its supposed to cut down on vibration and road noise.

that doesn't = thunderous bass from speakers to me.
