Remove Sub & replace with speakers?

Can I remove my 10" sub and still get some "kick" bass with aftermarket speakers... maintaining the stock apearance?

I'd like to ditch the sub/amp in the trunk and just get 1 amp to power all 8 speakers.
I dont need ghetto thump low rumble set off the ricketer scale bass.

just some nice clean crisp punch.

    TIA

possible but I want to keep the stock speaker apearance.
even 8" free-air subs would be to big. I also dont want to hack up the rear parcel shelf.

eitherway, some nice components need to be installed in the front. 17+ year old factory premiums are only so "good"

No i mean put a 6.5 round single way speaker and wire it to only work on bass frequencies. aka with a cross over.

          *just a thought*

Maybe you could try powering some 3-way component speakers in your car. Throw the midrange, highs in the front, and throw the woofers in the back.

^^ Something like that. 4" mids, 6.5" woofers

It depends on what you want to do with the interior speakers. I spent a lot on a 5 1/4" Infinity Kappa front components, 5x7 Kappa rear speakers, a high-end Eclipse headunit that has no internal power, and 3 sets of 8v preouts (soooo nice), then I am running my speakers off a Hifonics Zeus ZX440 440 watt amp. The whole car is rewired using double insulated 16 gauge Monster Cable, DEI rca cables, and Monster Cable power cables. I put the front tweeters in the stock pods and put some Dynamat in the front kick panel area.

My point of this post is it makes enough bass to the point that nobody believes me when they say I don't have a sub. I'll pop the trunk and they think they are right when they see my amp but can never find the sub...

Then again, even if you still had the same speakers as me but ran them powered from a headunit, I don't think you could get enough half as good sound.

The only added weight from my car is the amp, which is only like 15lbs. That is easily recovered with Chris losing some weight :)

this & trying to clean up my trunk are the main objectives.

I hate having the box back there, when I drive spiritedly it slides all over the place. I wont attach it down though, as I want it to be simple in/out.

an amp + some nice components in front + something for bass/rear fill is what I want.

If I try and lose some of my excess mass it will end up returning in muscle... thus weighing more. Anything under 175 and I start to feel emaciated/sick.

ot for a second: tj do you still have that eclipse? I've got the same one as you but with 5V preouts. my loading mechanism must be jacked up or something because it stopped liking CDs and gives me the INFO 3 shit unless I try to put in the cd 59829 times. My NOB also has a mind of its own. Is yours still working OK?

And yes, all of my speakers are powered from an external amplifier, rewired just like TJs. The entire car has been dynamatted and it sounds like there is a subwoofer, but there isn't. (there used to be, though  )

s'ok with me... I'll admit I've got some extra to clear off...

So is there a way to conceal a set of 6.5" under the rear stock pods?

LOL, that 3-way pro series setup is probably around $1200 or so. And they're meant to be all placed upfront. It'd sound like shit with the 6.5" back (but all rear speakers sound like shit...). The 6.5" will play low, but not even near as low as the 10"... well not at any decibel level you can hear anyhow.

Check out illusion audio. They make woofers with the magnet in the front (read: LOW profile), and they're EXCELLENT quality.

I have the 5504 and I have no problems with it. The knob works well. The only thing is sometimes I will insert a disc and it seems to be playing but no sound comes out. I just eject the CD and put it back in and all is well.

Eclipse still services these, it might be worth sending it in to them. I heard there was a recall on my deck because they have problems with skipping. It definately is more picky about scratched CD's than my old Pioneer was, but its something I have learned to live with.
