    thoughts on blaupunkt?

THey have pretty cool styling. Plus features like bluetooth built in instead of being a add-on feature. Otherwise I dont know much about how their features compare with the other major brands. ANyone else fans of blaupunkt products?

had one in my car for years. MP3 3000. I dig it, although the disk loading mechanism sucks.

Thoughts? Sadness, sorrow, longing. Oh wait, those were feelings, not thoughts.

Thoughts are more like "Damn, I wish Blaupunkt were as good as they used to be" or "Fuck, these guys almost get it, why the fuck don't they hire an installer to show them what people want" or "goddamn it, I have to swap out another stupid Blowchunks"

In terms of sound quality, they will be identical to every other head unit out there. They all use the same poopy amplifier IC.

Basically, choose based on aesthetics, features (MP3/iPOD/etc) & price. I cannot really comment much on the long term reliability, but the unit I did have ran fine for a good 5 years.

I have brisbane. ligth as a feather, I dig it, no problems.

all the nasty designs on the market, I think blaupunkt have some good units, though I would like better egonomics on thier buttons, its too cluttered, but at least it doesnt look like bling central.

Totally agree with Luke, Blaupunkt has gone way down hill, however I'm a glutton for punishment and keep buyting them. I had a bahamas and it was great until it got jacked by a crack head. I think they look pretty neat however most head units have a bright blue light which is sometimes too bright or annoying if everything else on the unit is red illumination to match your cluster. I get it for the looks but also for the german names. I think they go pretty well in BMWs.
West German BMWs, they just don't make the same as they did before the wall fell.
^Case in point: Auto-Repair Technology. Everytime my car isn't starting or acting up I let it sit, sometimes for an hour, sometimes for days. But it eventually fixes itself.

A blaupunkt head unit came in my car when I got it, I have no complaints. I'm not sure what model it is, I assume it isn't too new or advanced... but it sure keeps me satisfied and def.

The list of stereo companies that used to be good is getting pretty big. I still remember when Pyle drivers were pretty decent speakers. Now you can buy them for next to nothing all over ebay...

Yup. Although I have an Alpine TypeX 10" in my car and can't believe how good it sounds - too bad it takes a monster amp to drive it haha.

                    JL still has good stuff.

Pyle Drivers. I installed a few pair of those back in the day. I still have a set of 5.25's somewhere.

What a waste of a good name.

I had a set of Audiovox separates driven by a 100 watt Sanyo amp, and a Concord head unit, back in high school, that rocked. A trifecta of decent brand names that got whored out, rode hard and left for dead. You are an old-time cheap-stereo buff if you can peg the year.

To be fair, the separates might have been Audiovox's one brush with competence, I don't recall much else they offered being very desirable at the time..
