I had an upfiring 15... It wasn't bad I guess.

Anyone that has the skills to pull of a GOOD spare tire setup (meaning enough work to eliminate the rattles associated with pointing your sub straight into your trunk lid) will probably be willing to give up some space for a real box anyway.

I'm using my spare tire well for my batteries.

Most of us need to keep the spares in the car for daily driving use, and the fact that the sound of a sub firing straight up and down is less than ideal.

I'm surprized that no-one mentioned the "sub in the spare wheel-well" idea for saving space. If a person can sacrifice their spare, that's the best setup for a space-saver.

I don't know guys, All i know is that it sounds great, I get lots of bass if i want it, and i can still use my trunk without using up an extra 10 lbs for more wood.

I doubt that is sealed very well if you have the ski tunnel out...not to mention the little hole in the metal behind the seat.

Not trying to start any beef here, but just letting you know:

It behaves nothing like a ported enclosure. It is not efficient, and especially not efficient at the 40-80hz octave, it decreases power-handling capabilities, and there is no point when the woofer itself hands off the output to another instrument (port), nor is there any limiting whatsoever on the excursion of the woofer. The only ported enclosure it would behave like is one with a hugeass hole in it. I'm not sure I would place ported boxes with a huge hole in them in the "mediocre" category, instead more like "garbage". If anything is comparable, it is a sealed box that has exceeded the Vas parameter, which at that point becomes regarded as free-air operation.

It behaves like an IB, and nothing else.

    ;)

Uhm...ported? I would hope the front and rear waves are separated, or you'd have a nice amount of phase cancellation. The only "vent" you would practically have a use for is a vent used to tunnel the output into the cabin, assuming you don't have ample room to accomodate a baffle on your rear deck/seatback.

I'm going to get another trunk carpet and cover it with it as well. So it will be the same color all around, Clean up the wires, i might cut little holes so you can't see anything from behind except amp and sub.

That looks cool from inside the cabin but doesn't look that great inside the trunk.

Glad it worked out great, I am 100% happy with my system since I added a sub as well. Makes me notice more how crappy MP3's are for good stereos though.

finished hooking everything up last week...

ITS FUCKIN AWESOME...the improvement is just

the sub hits beautifully, and the components fuckin rock...everything is crisp and just fuckin great.

i dynamated everything in the interior (foot wells, floor, and rear deck).

also when i did this i put in a new carpet, and to my surprise the carpet i bought had no foam padding on the underside of the carpet, so i went to home depot and bought a 5x6 piece of carpet liner. i put the foam on top of the dynamat and the insulation is really good. the cabin got quieter from the previous setup. if the carpet wasn't that much a bitch to take out and put back in, i'd put more foam under there. but for what i've done im really quite happy.

all that is left to be done is cleaning up all of the wires in the trunk.

oh and one more thing, remember how i bought a 1/2 piece of mdf...well thats been replaced by 3/4 mdf because i fucked up on the baffle...too many screw holes and it wasn't lining up to the mounting holes.

anyways ill try to snap some shots of the baffle when i get the chance.

what about focals or boston acoustics? whats your take on those?
I have a set of Boston Rally components in my Tacoma and a set of Boston pro's in my 325i. I like the way that they sound and I have had ZERO problems with them.
I was looking at a set of Focals when I bought the pro's, I decided on the bostons because I liked the way that alot of the underground Hip Hop I like sounded on the bostons than on the Focals.
