    8" Lukebox setup questions

    I'm an audio noob.

I've got an 8" Lukebox coming my way, without amp rack for now. The box is going into a mostly weekend fun/track car (no cage or anything too crazy). I've removed my stock deck, and replaced with a set of VDO gauges that aren't going anywhere. My stock speakers are blown (?) or maybe just the rears, not sure. The idea for this was to have some music driving up to track days, and then removing the box and amp in the paddock. Talked to Luke a little bit about keeping an old ipod next the ebrake and using that as a source for the amp, but we weren't able to really flesh out that idea.

Needing some guidance on where to go from here:

    1. What amp, sub, speakers should I buy? Budget is about $500 max. I'm only interested in having 2 front speakers as well, don't need more than that.

    2. How do I mount the amp without an amp rack?

    3. Do you guys see any issues forgoing a proper deck and using an ipod?

    Thanks... pretty clueless here.

I suggest you mount a 4 channel amp to the car. Then install quick disconnects on the sub box. That way you can simply unplug it during track days. I'm sure you won't notice much weight difference if a small 4ch amp is left in the car.

Use two channels to two front speakers. Bridge rear channels to a single 8 inch woofer.

      Bought Orion XTR components.

Thinking of going for Infinity Reference 8" sub and MB Quart Onyx 4 channel amp. Nice and cheap.

let me know how your install goes and what the sound quality is like. i've been debating back and forth whether or not to pick up a box.

i'm not a basshead and i'm not sure it fits my goals for the car but the 8" setup shouldn't add much weight, or any at all given the trunk tar removal.

The box, amp and woofer should weigh less than 30 pounds, total. I have pulled trunk tar carefully on 3 cars, all of them had 57 pounds of tar (=/- 2lbs) so yeah, your car can lose weight...even if that screws up your weight balance, you should not notice.

          The box is quite small:

          Installed, it seems smaller still:

and I swear to fuck, we will get some amp racks built...we even have the pieces cut already! The look is tidy, and if you feel some silly need to shave a whole 20 pounds off your cars weight for track use, you could engineer some easy way to remove it and leave the amp in place, so you don't trash it by removing the RCAs repeatedly.

          Installed, it looks mighty tidy:

Oh, we have these boxes built and in stock right now!

(more pics on the site BTW)

Thanks, Josh! Yeah, it won't do like your sisters car does, but the 8" is pretty impressive unless you are deep into hiphop or dubstep type stuff...well, even then it is impressive, but not concussive like the 10" or the 12". You heard the 15" we did for Andy, right? That damn thing is brutal.

Oh, since the thread was bumped. I ended up going with Orion XTR components, Planet Audio 5 channel amp, and Alpine Type R DVC 8" sub.

Stock rear premiums for now. Just need to install everything.

and I need to get your amp rack to you!

That amp means you will be using the "flush" version, which we do not have pics of.

hey luke, i'm paraphrasing a quote from another thread here

Originally posted by Gregs///M View Post

The 10 inch woofer needs to meet the following requirements:
                          QTS <0.44
                          Fs <30Hz
                          MM<150g
                          .

do you have the subwoofer specification recommendations for your 8" lukebox? right now i'm looking at the sundown e8v2, which has the following specs:

                          QTS .4748
                          Fs 44.7 Hz
                          Mms 96 g

is that a good fit for this smaller box? my listening tastes don't focus on bass-heavy music.

We are talking about this: http://www.1800woofers.com/products/...udio-E8v2.html

                            Correct?

If that fits (gonna be tight, yo!) is will sound absolutely stellar. A slightly higher Qts will actually help, make it a bit "punchier" at the resonance point, which is great on an 8".

Let me make a quick warning: whatever you hear when first testing an 8" woofer, ignore it. They can change sound drastically over the first week of use, seems the suspension loosens more than a typical 10" or 12".

But yeah, if that woofer fits, you will love it.

                            Luke

yep thats the one! regarding figment, is it the depth or diameter or the coils or what? do you have an 8" box in stock to take a photo of the inside?

thanks for your time and soon I'll stop threadjacking.
