New gears AND new motor and still no odo. What gives?

Ok so my odo in my 318is was broken like usual so purchased and installed the new gears from garagistic. Motometer cluster.
After making 100% sure I had the gears installed correctly the odo still didn't work. So I figured hey it must be a bad odo motor.
Fast forward to today I install the new gears into another odo with similar miles and once again, nothing.

What are the chances that I got two bunk motors? Is there anything else it could possibly be?? I'm totally stumped and bummed I can't get it to work. Everything else on the cluster functions 100% and I don't know why this won't.

    Any help is appreciated

Both my cluster and my new speedos cluster were motometers, and both were in 318iss. But either way it doesn't really matter

I swapped gears for a friend of mine on 2 odos and went back after he said one wasnt working. Turns out he didnt reconnect all the cluster plugs. Works fine now and he's lucky I didnt hit him for a service call lol

The plate that secures the odometer gears in place, with the two screws. Loosen those up a bit. Tighten too much and they wont spin.

              ^ that

I had the same problem, Greg suggested that and it worked! Thanks Greg! Also I took off the 2 little yellow place holder things that garagistic includes with the gears.

I once forgot to install those yellow o rings and it allowed the gear to move up the shaft and not mesh. You need those o rings with the garagistic gears.

The cover being too tight seems plausible! I did tighten it pretty hard. Will try and report back!

I believe this to be the biggest mistake people make when changing their gears. Garagistic should include this note in their instructions.

I always use Garagistic gears btw.

Thanks for the advice, I'll reinstall them.

I'm getting ready to take a decent trip in my e30. I'm gonna see if this is my issue aswell. It would be nice to get a real gauge of what kinda mpgs i'm getting
