DIY - Euro Ellipsoid Headlight Installation

So, I was overwhelmed by all that was said but this, and correct me if I am wrong will be turn both high and low beams on at the same time; if car was not wired for ellipsoids or smilies.

I might do this so they both come on

Yes the highs will come on with this setup, only if you put ellips in a sealed beam car. Plus the fogs will stay on when the highs are on with this relay jump.

BBY1104, I did the wire jump this morning. It works great. I have some HIDs on order. Now all I have to do is figure out how to align the headlights.....Ugh. I have a hard time raising them up. Theyre pointed down, DAMIT. Heres a pic:

im thinking about doing this now too. So all you do is wire one relay to the other? Does it matter what part of the relays you use?

Yes, i think it does matter what part of the relay you use. From the side fender the prongs should be closest to you. Look at the previous post in the picture. Make sure you use those. I never tried to use the other prongs.

I had some leftover 16 gauge wire. Its a little thick but does the job. I would go something a little smaller. I had to cut some of the wires to fit.

Have fun doing it cause they are hard to take out.

I did the wire jump this morning. It works great. I I have a hard time raising them up. Theyre pointed down, DAMIT.

I just adjusted mine with some washers behind the screws where you screw the lights in and tighened them accordingly.



In regards to your lights: I am going to do mine in a few minutes. If it worked with you i should have no problem. Did you use copper or aluminum wire. Does it matter? I have a ton of copper wire of different gauges

OK heres a SUPER EASY way to hook up your ellipses. No splicing involved.

1 take out your sealed beams.

2 attach male prongs to harness wires

3 plug these into the sealed beam harness



As for the city lights, the same principle applies. You just plug into the sidemarker harness.

Hey guys, so today I went out and wire up my sealed beam to US ellipsoid. It was pretty much straight forward (the pigtails and my stock wiring were the same color), except the low beam had 2 of the same color wire. So I pretty much try each one, until I was able to get the bulb on. The high beams are also straight forward (also the pigtails were same color to my stock wiring), but there was one wire left. So here's my question, the 2 extra wires on my car are the same color. Could it be possible that those 2 should wire up to each other in order to have the low stay on when high beam is ignited? If not what do I do in order to have my low stay on when highs are ignited? Thanks! Here are some pics:

Thanks, BTW installing the sealed beams on the 89 was actually simple, I bridged the extra white (one of the dual filament wires to the white on the low beam connection) therefore resolving the "all four lights on while the high beam on situation" I didn't bother taking pics or whatever cause I don't imagine anyone doing/having too, that... Thanks again for you help.

I believe the two wires are because the sealed beams have two filaments in each low beam, and when you turn on the high beams, it switches to the other filament in the low beams.

When I hooked my lights up, I kept the factory sealed beam connector and crimped spade connectors to the end of the ellip wiring harness. Then I just plugged everything in. There were three possible slots to connect to on each sealed beam low-beam connector, and two connectors coming from the ellips, so the one for the second filament didn't get anything plugged into it. I then did the relay jump so all the lights would stay on at once.
