if u just poured it in it should be fine to reuse, just use a very clean catch bucket and funnel, and if you see any metal shavings in the bottom, consider straining through cheese cloth, but the oil should be fine.

BTW, If you happen to lose your engine oil cap, just find a sock. Works fine.

I know this thread is like 9 months old, but the sock remark still made me lol. Does anyone know what happened to that guy and his cams?

I've been looking throught these threads and still can't make sense of what to use.

For instance it seems different years use different types of oil in the trannys and auto vs manual.

Can somebody put together a list of what they would recommend using in these different applications for all these cars?

Also any gaskets, washers, needed to do each job, Part Numbers would be helpful.

Also is shock proof the stuff to use?

                  I'm lost.

my friend had an intake on his honda and his cone filter fell off. so he replaced it with a sock. you can see where this is going

it got sucked up into the tb, and the car would idle at like 4k and smell like burning. he picked me up and i was like wtf is that? we get out and the sock is smouldering inside of his tb.

Get a Bently manual for all the of needed volumes, types, weights, etc:

And stick with Mobil 1 15w-50 engine oil or a heavy weight (20w50) conventional oil. On the tranny and diff, use Redline synthetic. It's not that complicated :)

tranny. redline MTL, redline MT-90 preferable both okay...mobil sincromesh 70-90. differential is really up to you i put 90-140 mobil 1 syn w/ lsd additive. open can use >70-120. 10w40 valvolin on engine (depending on your temp b.t 5w30,10w30,10w40,20w50) power steering is ATF dextron 3 (vavoline ATF +3)

brake fluid up to you. dot3 or dot4. did i miss anything?

For the brake fluid, you can use Valvoline Synpower. Its boiling point is only about 30 degrees lower, it's readily available and cheap. Unless you're looking at a BBK to lessen brake heat, it won't make a difference compared to ATE. Oh, and DOT 4 for the brakes. you can use DOT 3, just don't use it if you';re doing any real performance driving, like hard twisties, AX, or a DE.

It seems like redline MTL and redline MT-90 are the preferred manual tranny fluids. Some say to use auto fluid in the tranny? Some say to go with shock proof, is there any advantage to these two over the MTL and the MT-90?

I know this is pretty simple and I'm digging deep but I want the best stuff.

For the tranny and diff, other than the fluid what parts/seals/washers will I need to replace after changing?

                              part numbers?

                              Thanx doods

I used Redline ATF in my tranny for a 318is and 75w90 in the diff. The diff leaks like crazy now...
