I still can't decide what to order since my car also has a sheet metal console...

Who else installed a z3 or z4 shifter on an early e30 ? I want to get something that will fit and BMA wasn't exactly sure how a z3 kit will need to be changed if any for a sheet metal console car... :(

why do you waste money on delrin bushings, when you can make your own?

I would also like to know if there are any mods to be performed on an early model. I want to get the same BMA kit but im not sure if it will work out with my 85.

Yea i think the uuc setup is what i will be getting. How is the throw compaired to a z3m? I love my z4 3.0 for DD but with my s50 i want something faster. When i do a 5spd swap on my green car i am going to get a z3 2.8/M(the same right) ssk and see if i like it. I am not a huge fan of the z31.9's a little to long, they arent to bad though.

How is the OEM shifter on a sheet metal console car different from the aluminum console car ? Are the bushings different or are the mounting positions different ?

I finally got my Z4 2.5 shift kit in. I used the UUC bushings. The one word that describes this....WOW.

If you haven't done a ssk of any type you are really missing out. It feels great and performs great. So for 58.00 from BMA...DO IT!!

because the time I would have wasted making my own is more than made up for by the $40 I spent to get premade ones... opportunity cost anyone?

I just got a DSSR for my car . they say it won't clear the TC but I've been looking at the linkage on my car and I don't see why it wouldn't.. I'm not afraid to grind a bit to get it to fit either though. of course UUC also says a bunch of levers (such as the Z3 1.9) don't work on the ix when they work just fine...

I have a Z3 1.9 and a B&M and the B&M is shorter and more notchy, but the z3 1.9 is much smoother.

has anyone experienced both the uuc evo 3 and race shifter? what are the differences? does the evo 3 have a shorter throw?

I installed a z3m + bronze bushings today. I had the bend the heck outta the selector rod. Quite pleased with the result, but may bend the shift lever some to bring it back further.

This picture compares a stock and the "ssk" using gears 3,4.
