Use the Z8 start button. It's OEM :) (Not that expensive either.)

Lets see...a key that could be lost vs. the OBC which is a notorious pile of crap that loses its mind on a regular basis.

                Hmmmmmm....

I think I will stick with the key.

                Closing SOON!

This thread makes me cringe for a number of reasons.

What you really want is a key or fob that can tell the car when you are inside it. Then a button to start it. The car must detect the presence of the key fob before it will activate the button.

why do you need the part that tells the car you are in it? This still requires a key... people can't just hop in and push the button and take your car

Start button + RFID proximity access control (a setup like this) I would pioneer this project, but time does not allow.

And no. It wouldn't require a key. Only that the key fob is in your pocket or "on your person" or in a bag, ect...No fob, no start. No key either.

I dont agree with the security issue. Maybe I live in a safe area but I've been driving my car like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VIvgSEzvew and I am not concerned. just lock the doors.

I've always enjoyed a push button start personally. No matter how it was carried out. If you needed a key, didn't, or a fob in a pocket... it's a personal preference. I had my e46 setup so that you could not start with the key, but still needed the key in acc2 to be able to press the z8 start button to start it. I loved it everytime I got in the car.

As soon as I get a chance I'll be doing the same thing in the e30, though I must admit I do like the idea of an rfid chip in a fob with no need for keys at all. Might look into that in conjunction with the z8 button.

Bringing back an old thread but if you really want to do this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-Em-...embedded#at=43

                                its the hole kit.
Alarm, Keyless wntry, lights work, windows, Remote starter, and the push button.
you no longer need a key and it works flawlessly.

if you want to go the next step even thought the car wont start unless the system senses the card is on the inside of the car. not outside not in the trunk and not under. INSIDE. you can add a bad ass fingerprint scanner so no one can ever get your car.
