^^^^^ agreed. You all have some big nerves using your original wiring to hook up your ballasts. While the operating current running thru those wires will be significantly lower than say a tungsten lamp, the initial meteoric rise in voltage will expose your wires to currents commonly unseen when supporting tungsten or halogen operated lamps. Do everybody a huge favor and engineer a separate wiring system to supply your ballasts directly from your battery. Furthermore, consider doing a complete HID swap whereby you replace your entire lens housing and xenon bulb that are correctly mated to each other for optimal and more importantly safer light output. Your goal should be to put out more directed light on the road to help you see things better and not distract the oncoming traffic. While this write up is excellent in explaining how to do a cheap and aesthetically pleasing mod, please consider the other safer, better, and ultimately cheaper alternatives. For example, I have managed to install a complete xenon assembly out of a E90 into both my E36 and E30 housings. The cut off is far superior to what is offered here. The set up looks worlds better and ultimately it's safer for everybody. And here is the kick, the whole thing cost less than 200 bucks.

I think your prematurely fry your ballast. I tried something like that on a motorcycle using better connectors and wiring. I've been retrofitting HID kits since 2003. 50k volts will arc through non silicone wires like nothing. Even some low silicone content wires cause a problem. And bullet connectors wrapped in electrical tape won't do much either. At the very least id go to your local oreilly, pep boys, etc and grab some silicone repair tape.

I made mine use factory plug







I used an end mill at work and drilled a perfect hole for a little room for the bulb because it's to big for stock housing
and glued a 28mm Fine Ribbed cap on the back side, it looks like it should be there when finished.
Also insulate in the cap because you will arc across and electricity won't flow through bulb.

Whats the best place to order hid's for U.S elipsoids? I heard you dont have to get the full kit or something? Just asking for the cheapest advice on headlight HID setup.

The easiest way is to take your power and ground from your low beam connector and splice on a 9006 connector. That 9006 connector fits directly into the HID kits that DDM Tuning is selling. You can order the 9006 connectors with pigtails from places like rallylights.com or order some from the dealer or snag them from a parts car e30 that has US ellipsoids or whatever.

Then you just have to cut a hole in the back of the low beam cap on your Euro Smiley Ellipsoid (h1 bulb) lights (skipping the original electrical connection on that cap entirely). The HID kit comes with the wires already fed into a grommet that will fit snugly into the hole you drill in the cap. See my pics on first post for how the wires and grommets look going through the caps.
