I called in to pay for a test one. When I get it I'll take pictures and let you know how it goes. They said it is a gm coil pack and looks a lot like the Saab one I sent them a picture of, so my spark plug wires might plug right in.

We'll my soldering skills came from building vintage tube amps with huge solder pads. I was shocked when I attempted to build my first ms2 from scratch. So it was probably my soldering error. I did get it working after a couple attempts. I had a pnp made by a member in a stock ecu case for my next car and the bip373s we're grounding themselves to the case. Ended up frying that board. Then when the quad sparks came out I think I over heated it by having it in the battery tray. My current set up has been working flawlessly but that's how ms has been for me. Lots of learning the hard way.Leave a comment:

Interesting, how did that happen? I've never burned an ignition driver, and I've had 3 different daily driven MS setups and have tuned or helped tune dozens in my estimation. Knock on wood, I suppose, I have found in-case drivers perfectly reliable.Leave a comment:

I used to have the bip373s added in my ms2 case but I always had issues with them burning out and taking the coil with them same with the quadspark. Finally got a working set up. I think the logic level outputs sound nice and going full sequential. I've already picked up a mrt plate with a cam sensor.Leave a comment:

Yes. You can easily install BIP373s or IGBTs and drive a COP or wasted spark like that saab V6 coil pack directly. You can also drive M50/M42 coils and most others for that matter directly with installed ignition drivers in MS2. MS3X is a totally different animal, while you can install additional drivers in it, it makes more sense to use the logic level outputs do drive coils which have internal high current transistors. MS2's biggest limitation in our turbo applications is that it can't do sequential injection, this hampers fuel economy and idle quality since you're forced to use simultaneous 1 injection per cycle to keep your pulsewidths in a reasonable range if you have large injectors. 6 injectors firing at once on mostly closed valves harms idle quality and low engine speed fuel economy for obvious reasons.Leave a comment:

Thanks I'll do that especially since I am in Phoenix. If I drive a turbo in the summer everything will melt. Now why would you run two quadspark modules? I thought you only use 3 of the channels anyway, now you have 8.
Is there a way to do this? I could skip the quadspark and go with a coil that has built in ignoters/drivers.
I haven't looked into it in any detail, but I have heard of COPs existing with built in igniters/drivers. They are just triggered by a 5v/12v logic level signal, which the ECU puts out (currently to the quadspark modules in my build).

Is the ms2 capable of driving the cop directly in wasted spark mode without the quadspark? I thought you needed a ms3 for that. I started to say it wasn't but I don't wanna put up bad info.Leave a comment:

If I was to redo my setup I would change to a different COP with built-in igniters/drivers.

I really wish the megasquirt came with the ignition drivers inside the ecu already as the extra wiring is ugly to me and given me the most problems. Not that my car isn't a ratrod...Leave a comment:

I run quadspark and diyautotunes ign-6 coilpack. In a jam it's the same as a duralast coilpack part #c881 from a 1997 dodge intrepid 3.5. definitely mount the quadspark in the car. Mine is on the firewall behind the ecu. I melted a couple in the engine bay and ruined the coilpack at the same time before I figured it out.Leave a comment:

I just left mine open to the elements. Maybe inadvisable, but there are more manufacturing steps than I care to involve in making my own a block off plate, with the recessed channel on the back, counterbored hardware, filleting of the edges. I can see how in low volume they wind up that expensive. I would 3D print it but I think I'm better off with nothing there, honestly. That's a rough spot for a 3D printed part; directly in the hot radiator fan wash, exposed to significant vibration. You could probably get one without the recessed channel cut from a simple CAD model and countebore the holes yourself for cheaper than $50 if you use one a cheap service like sendcutsend. In my experience getting the end tanks plates cut for my E34 I don't see such a simple part being very expensive at all.Leave a comment:
