    Going MegaSquirt

    im confused between the 2

Build your own MS2 ECU with this unassembled MegaSquirt-2 V3.0 kit. Includes 4-bar MapDaddy sensor, silver MS3-style case, and all required components.

    and this

which one would be the better choice for a stroked e30 , soon to be turboed but the thing is one comes with mapdaddy but needs a separate wiring harness and the other without mapdaddy but just get plugged into the regular harness , I am taking peoples opinions on this iv looked around and some people use the ms2 kit > some use the bosh one

If you dont want to wire up a new harness you can always buy the PNP Bosch kit and add the map daddy upgrade. If you don't plan on running very high boost, you don't really need the map daddy upgrade anyways.

so the mapdaddy can be added to the bosch kit alright then so the bosch kit would be the better alternative I rather not wire crap so im thinking of just getting the bosch kit atm im gonna run it as a stroked engine the turbo will come later on just ordered the bosch pnp

the stock MAP sensor is 2 bar so if you aren't going over 15psi you don't really need an upgraded MAP sensor.

if you want the bee's knee's in PnP kits, talk to Whodwho. The nice thing about his kits is you have an upgrade path, but with the DIY 55 pin kit you are stuck with the microsquirt daughter card.

I sat there reading about it last night idk right now I just ordered the DIY 55 pin kit since I don't have to deal with wiring , but I was going to talk to whodwho I should of but forgot all about him , will the whodwho kit and whodwho kit basically do the same though or? what's the difference that his isn't using the micro squirt daughter board

they're both PnP. Whodwho's is completely assembled and uses an MS2 CPU (which could be upgraded to MS3). I don't know if he has MS3 PnP kits or not.

microsquirt is based off MS2 but it's all self contained so you can't upgrade or really modify it.

the DIY 55pin kit will need soldered and assembled.

+1 for whodwho. Have one of his ms2 units for my iX, just waiting on some cooling bits / tbelt before install.

finally got this thing ready and is connected to tuner studio now here is what I found on the diy there are basemap tunes for the first start up and you can go from there what should I do? , use one of their base maps or set up all my own settings

I am also considering trying MS and have some questions. I have a NA B35 and I want to make a completely new engine harness rather than repairing a cracked beat up BMW one and would like to make a clean simplified design. Are the harnesses that DIY autotune sells recommended? I don't yet know all the features that are mandatory to basically make an engine run well vs. those added features that go into very advanced tuning. I am thinking it would be nice to have individual coils for all 6 cylinders and maybe eventually try to reference the cam position as well to run full sequential injection.

I don't mind doing the work but also like the idea of some components preassembled. What is most cost effective these days and what will give me the ability to fairly easily make additions and improvements when I am ready beyond just getting the engine running?

it will definitely run better with full sequential injection. ditching the cap/rotor for a wasted spark or COP setup is more about reliability and maintenance than performance - it won't really run different. a COP setup can cost less than a set of stock plug wires, cap & rotor though.

You need a cam sensor for sequential fuel so making the jump to COP isn't that big anyway. Making a sensor setup is pretty simple too - a hall sensor from an E46 M54 (or similar), and a single "tooth" at the right position is all you really need.

building a harnesss from scratch can be tough but also very nice in the end. definitely getting a pigtail harness with crimped DB37 pins is a good idea. you can use parts of the stock harness, and you can get generic 2 and 3 pin AMP/tyco connectors for things like the ICV, injectors, etc.

How is your DIY kit going?
                        Is hard to tune?
What else you have to buy beside the kit?

                        Thanks
