I could go either way with this. It might be a fun project for some people. I say if you feel up for it - do it.
Yes I really wanna learn it. I feel i can do it and I know I can soulder. Just gonna have to buy a magnifying lamp cause my eyes wont be able to take looking at such small things for so long

then get the DIYpnp.
really, the hard part isn't building the hardware, it's tuning it. you don't want to be struggling with the tune and realize later it was a mistake on the hardware side that you made, or something came apart.
Wiring it up with an old connector works, but I wouldn't do it that way again.
actually, if you want I have an adapter board I need to sell. it was made years ago by goathumper. it has the 55 pin connector, a PCB, and you can wire that up to MS. $20 and its yours. but you'll still have to figure it out..

Quoted and bolded for very valid points.
I started by making an adapter to the stock harness. Bad idea, it was way more headache. Making a new harness took less time.
I couldn't agree more on the tuning part of your post.
I've also done it by hacking off the stock connector and putting the Megasquirt connector on.. but that sucks too. Using the equivalent of a printer connector as the main interface for your engine pretty much sucks. it's OK within an adapter but I always wish I had done my current MS3 using a stock connector instead of the DB37.

Those old D connectors were never meant to handle any current. So yea.
