    VEMS vs Whodwho Megasquirt

So i have a line on a VEMS standalone ECU that a gentleman has decided not to use for his m20, and ended swapping an s52 into his E30.

I'm trying to decide whether its economical to buy the VEMS or just go with the Whodwho PNP megasquirt.

Biggest hurdle is the ease of the PNP megasquirt. Detach stock ecu, attach MS2 box, add IAT and you're basically good to go.

Does anyone sell a plug and play VEMS kit for the m20 or will i have to buy the universal harness and hack up stock harness for all the connectors?

    What would you do?

You'll end up spending more on the VEMS unit to make it PNP and not have the same type of support Whodwho gives, where he will actually guide you to make sure you're up an running.
Keith, whodwho, will also give you a start up/base tune so you can drive the car to the dyno or just putter around town safely.
My turbo car started first try with his start-up tune and I sent him my driving logs probably 4 times for him to review and modify so that I would have a clean idle, stoich mixture, and good throttle response. I don't know anyone else who would do that for the community!

VEMS is really nice, but to save headaches I would still go MS.

if you lived in Scandinavia, VEMS would be the way to go due to local tuning support. In North America, you're more likely to find somebody who can help you with Megasquirt IMO.

feature wise they're both pretty similar depending on what level you go with. I believe there is a PNP VEMS as well but I don't know if it's still sold or not.

As i figured...I was hoping VEMS would have a plug and play ECU plug like Whodwho....

It was just an attractive VEMS price that got me thinking, but if i have to buy a universal harness for 200 euro, hack up an OEM bmw harness ($100 used?), spend hours combining the two, its a no brainer.

whodwho is very helpful with setup and any issues you run into, so that's my vote.

Id try sending him a dm. He used to post them in the parts for sale thread but it's been a while. I don't know if he's still making them. I bought one a few years ago and it was great and his support was awesome.

Yep, found one of his posts and DM'd him. Also got his email address from a pic of one of his boards, it was stenciled in the corner.

Yeah email is the best way to get a hold of him usually. I hope he's still making them. There is no other direct plug and play that fits so nice in the glove box. It was 9 years ago when I got mine though...

I don't think him nor blueapplesoda (dedericms) are making PNP MS2 kits anymore.

The best way to reach Keith is via direct email, w h o d w h o @ c o x . n e t (remove all spaces), he responded to me right away. He still makes these kits, although not as many as before.
