E30 M20 Muffler Options

Hey all-

I recently had a fancy stepped scavenged header made and am trying to dial in the exhaust setup.

I used the common Magnaflow 14815 out back, with a Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator in der mitte, 2.5" exhaust.

The note is perfect, but it's still too loud since I daily/road trip the car when it's on the road.

The Magnaflow out back needs to stay, but I'd like to swap the resonator out for something that will quiet it down a bit more without killing the timbre.

I was thinking of swapping the resonator out for a Magnaflow 10416, but wanted to see if anyone had any personal experience input here first. I'm also not against adding a catalyst instead of a muffler, I am just less familiar with what they do to the exhaust note.

9.4:1 2.7L M20 w/ 272 cam, 1 3/4" stepped to 1 7/8" stepped to 2" primaries, scavenged/clocked dual 2.5" collectors into single 2.5" out the back

To "try" something else entails two half days to fab shop and back, and hours of fab $hop labor, so I'm trying to gain a more precise understanding of how to achieve what I want sound-wise before changing the setup. I had this same muffler/resonator on Linda that I have now and it wasn't as loud. Many folks have used the Magnaflow 14815 I'm using, so I know we're not far off! just hoping to get a few positive testimonials before I decide

Edit: The more research I do, the more I'm leaning towards just installing a Magnaflow spun cat like a 54956. Should bring the overall volume down without changing the tone much if I keep the resonator/muffler, which would be ideal
