..both of which are behind heatsheilds, so it doesn't matter, and the stock exhaust came just as close.. but the CV joint isn't as lucky.

Nothing like header wrap to absorb oil and grease to create an under-bonnet bonfire.

I've had great luck w/ header wrap on my other car. I doubt any performance gains but it just helps keep under hood temps down. Personally if I were to choose which to do, I'd rather just wrap the headers, it's done great for me on my pickup and wasn't as expensive as the full ceramic coating. Granted it doesn't look as good, but I'd rather put function before style.

yea i agree with wrapping my stock headers but not because i want Hp gain, but because i dont want all that heat fucking up another set of ignition wires... im gonna wrap, then upgrade to 8mm cause im still running the stock wires and they are basicly gone due to the heat.

Is the stock heatshield still in place? If it is, you shouldn't have any problems with your spark plug wires. Hell, I don't think mine have ever been changed (though they will be soon). And don't bother "upgrading" your spark plug wires. In reality it will probably be a downgrade from stock.

No when i bought the car the stock heatsheilds were in pretty bad shape, and that ended up ruining the wires. i want to replace them but im to lazy to deal with it right now.

Don't use header wrap on stainless steel. It doesn't absorb heat well and expand the same way as mild steel or cast iron. Limit header wrap or coatings to cast or mild steel only!

If you don't believe me, just browse the net and try to find ANY stainless steel parts either coated or wrapped.

I've heard from muscle car guys that aftermarket or non-cast iron headers tend to literally disentagrate when used long term with header wrap.

If you take care of your car enough, you wouldn't have oil and grease all over. and if you have oil all over your headers, something is wrong.

My stock downpipes had a gauze like material with metal heat shield welded over that, so instead of leaving the downpipes exposed I wrapped them with Summit Brand fiberglass wrap.

i paid 225 to get mine coated. made a heck of a difference.

I was up above it, Now I'm down in it ~ Entropy - A Build thread.

Header wrap isn't garbage at all. It will keep heat in the exhaust and not in the engine bay which is a benefit for many reason. Also it is extremely cost effective and quick to install.

On street car it will probably make very little difference since the engine bay has plenty of airflow and doesn't rev very high. Especially so on a car like a an E30 325 with heavy cast iron exhaust manifolds. Also the thick cast iron has it's own specific features. But in a race car situation, the constantly high RPM creates a lot of heat.

I helped with a Formula V6 race car with a 3.5 liter engine that is capable of 575 hp and it had header wrap. It's not like they just throw anything on to this car cause it has a lot of internet hype.

gringo, you fool! You mean you don't keep your header lubricant reservoir filled?!

I can't believe they haven't overheated and blown from you running them dry like that. :loco:

On a side note, I personally had my stock exhaust manifold gold plated for maximum insulation, plus it looks bitchin with the neons n shizz... I pop my lambo stylez hood and its like

Is stainless steel superior to the stock cast iron manifolds not only in its ability to flow better, but also (and correct me if I'm reading this incorrectly) because it keeps the heat in better and isn't as reactive (thermal expansion/contraction wise) as mild steel/cast iron? And due to this, adding wrap/jet hot would cause it to crack/break because of the extra heat being kept in? Would you recommend stainless headers (in my case an 1997 m52)? Thanks
