    1) take sharpie, draw on backside of hood what you want gone

    2) cut portion out

3)tape off from paintside and paint from the engine side (enough to cover bare metal from cutting it, so it doesn't rust.) i used flat black on a friends mustang.

4)weld quickly whatever wire you want in it to hood. if you do it fast enough it wont mess your paint up to bad.

    5) ride around in your e30 stirring up all the ricey srt4's and gsr's.

turbo blankets and header wrap are a good way to coke oil in the turbo and trap moisture on the exhaust. I wouldn't want to wrap the downpipe unless the car was seldomly used and/or the exhaust was made of a decent material. I think SS should be okay.

Here is my hood mod on my old 325i turbo, the intake heat in the 1/4 mile was going from 30° to 60-65° celcius, but with the hood mod and hedlight out 30° - 40-45 celcius
            Best time 12.04 116.5 mph and 1.7 60 feet

I bought foil tape at home depot and taped the underside of my hood where the turbo is. It actually helped a lot. As long as the car is moving, there is plenty of airflow under the hood and now the hood doesn't heat up too badly with the tape. I'd go with the the suggestion of wrapping your mani, turbo, and dp.

My turbo burned the foil tape off the hood, but its also a lot closer to the hood than yours is. The turbo blankets do wonders (this is what I ended up doing).

Meth and proper heat insulation can go along ways, a hood vent too.

I'd build a heat shield. You really don't want to cool your turbine housing, you want to keep the enthalpy in your exhaust as high as possible. It'll increase your turbine efficiency.

This guy knows what he is talking about! You want to hold heat in your exhaust stream as it flows through the turbine. Ceramic coat the turbine housing and downpipe, use reflective tape on the underside of the hood. If that doesn't fix it use a turbo blanket as well.
