Not at all. But the hole was large enough to evacuate the entire cooling system in a matter of seconds.

I might drop that head off somewhere later this summer to see if i can't just get it welded up. The M20 doesn't use 95% of the water channel on that side anyways.

Just do it now. My machine shop can do it same day if I drop it off in the morning. Its not a delayed process unless they are swamped or their welder is out sick.

I've soldone for $200. It went quick, so either the buyer really needed it, or it was a good price
That's cheap as an 885 head would cost at least $800 down here, 731 heads are about $300 which is what I've got
Sorry for the noob question but what is the point of welding the water jackets I hear alot of people doing it on e30tech with their turbo m20 motors

Damn that's a lot of dough. I get a complete m20 for $88 on half off days. I wonder how much it would be to ship an 885 head to australia. Can't be more then $300 right? I can have one welded and refreshed for $500 including the cost of the head.

Adds strength to the head. If you look at the coolant openings on the mating surface, you're only using about 20% of it on the drain side and 10% on the feed. You weld in the remaining area and have the surface machined. Winning.

That's what they would charge at a bmw wrecker, if your lucky you could find a much cheaper one at a random pick and pull but you gotta question the condition of the motor, down here its better and cheaper option to buy a donar car such as a 525i and transfer most of it over. I had a deal with someone on this forum to do a direct swap of my 731 head for his 885 head and all we do is pay for our own postage which was $300 but it didn't fall through

Like this. Note the coolant passages have been partially filled in.

Gasket came. Wrong one. The one that showed has a 81mm bore. WTF?

Jeff, I have a new Cometic(still in the box) that came with my TCD kit. Not sure which one it is but I can check when I get home tonight. If it works for you, you're welcome to come and grab it and then just catch up with me when yours comes in. I'm going to be boxing up my head to send to VAC this weekend so its going to be a while before I need it.
