Best way to fit intercooler

Stock 1990 325i.

Oil cooler isn't an issue.

Piping: 2.5"

Intercooler size: 3.5" deep, not sure of other dimensions. It looks just like this:




What's the best way to go about mounting this? Do you turbo guys get rid of your fan to fit the intercooler? Any help is much appreciated.

I ditched my ac components and hid it behind the grill, but thats just me. Ive seen some people put it lower but you'll end up cuting your valance

yup i ditched my condensor and fan and ran it behind the kidney grills if its 2.5" piping then it will just fit under the lights with out trimming.

How easy will it be to fit that 3.5" intercooler if I take the fan out? I don't want to do much cutting.

your gonna have to remove the grills and see where it fits best for you. mine was caller and not as long maybe it will just slide right in!!! test it and see how it fits

an easy way i figured out to mount it is to cut the ears off the valance that bolt up to the radiator suport and flip them the other way and weld them onto the rad suport and use them to bolt up you intercooler. Mine didnt lose much structural suport on the valance, plus the ic is behind it

Think I've got it mounted pretty good....no brackets yet but I found a good spot for it. No trimming required. It hangs a little low, but that's what I have a lip for ;)

From my experience a 3.5" intercooler is too thick if you want it to fit behind the valance.

That's basically how I did it. Hammer and angle grinder. Make space!

or just get the correct fitting one and you wont have to cut anything
