do you have to run MS or is there a way to get a turbo m20 to run well without MS.

RRFPR and a chip. It will run of the AFM but dont expect it to make much power or last for long. My 2cents.

by the time you buy a rrfpr and a chip, you've spent enough to buy megasquirt, but you cant tune anything... just use megasquirt

yes there is. you use another aftermarket ECU such as Autronic, Motec, Link, VEMS, etc.

RRFPR and chip can work, pretty sure thats how TCD does it.

Are there any aftermarket ECUs that are commonly used in the japanese car market that we can use?

Mainly because I would be able to get a great deal on tuning if it was something they were familiar with. Perhaps AEM EMS?

there is no reason aem wouldn't work. People use it on 24v motors in e36's.. m20s are cake.

If you don't have any idea how to wire megasquirt, you are in luck, as I sell a plug and play megasquirt setup where all the wiring is done, http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...ght=megasquirt

You can use what ever you want. MS is difficult cause you have to mod the board to get it to work for your car. Buying a better sealed ecu is way sweeter but you still have to go through wiring it to the car.

The FMU (rrfpr) and slightly bigger injectors has been a proven method for YEARS. The only down fall is its only safe until about 8 or 9 psi. The reason you can get away with it on your m20 is you can "tune" the AFM enough to get the car to run well on larger injectors (i hear 30lb/hr is the limit) before boost and then the FMU takes car of the rest.

When I was into hondas I had turbo'd a single cam d series using an fmu. Everyone told me not to do it because it is unreliable. I had that set up on 13 pounds for over a year, and I drove the hell out of the car, before a motor mount broke and I dropped the engine while doing 60mph. You can make it reliable by taking out a little timing and upping the fuel pressure a little. They guys that told me not to do it, they all blew up their set ups. I'll probably just go fmu and a chip on mine, since I am not looking for huge power.

not everyone is not looking for big power.

but it eventually finds you and you can't stop wanting more.......

my car isn't being built for speed. Plus I am not hp hungry. I am just looking for that little extra kick to get the car sideways ant 45 mph. Now when I eventually swap to something newer/better Then I'll probably get m/s or something. I don't care to much about the m20

you can run a chip ,arrfpr,at 7-10psi and use stock injectors, reccomend installing a wideband, I prefer this to all the sophisticated tuning stuff gonig on today, but dont expect to any big hp., This will last a long time making plenty of hp .my2cents

I will second the usage of a Wideband O2 sensor with a realtime gauge. Definatly worth it!
