Is it something the car needs to run correctly, or doesent make a difference in operation. I live in Ca. 20min from the ocean so im pretty much at sea level. I was reading that with the sensor missing or in operative the car calculates ratio at sea level anyway. Anyone have any input on this?

How's your mileage?
I'd go looking in the pull- a- parts...
the M20 etas had one, too- but I don't know if they were the same. Neat inside-
really DOES look like a little mechanical barometer hooked up to a variable
resistor...
tnow, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

My car ran fine on stock management without it. I'm guessing it only makes adjustment from 1atm if you are at higher altitudes... worst case is that you will run 10% richer for each 1000m above sea level.'84 318i M10B18 147- Safari Beige

The cover has been off mine for years and at some point the slide arm moved which caused a high idle. Easy fix. Yes, it's an altitude compensator and no, you def don't need it.
If they are worth that much maybe I should sell mine :)Seat Shocks....I have passed the baton to John Christy from Ninestitch. Email John or Garrett at ninestitch1@gmail.com
