Do I need an upgraded ECU with a Schrick 272 in other wise stock M20 engine?

Hello, I've got a freshly built completely stock e30 m20 engine except for the cam which is a Schrick 272. My engine builder told me it would run fine with a stock setup. But, the car runs noticeably more sluggish than my other e30 that is Completely stock. I contacted Bimmerworld, who sells the cam and they basically said they don't have any recommendations. Thanks much, in advance for any help trying to figure out if I Should upgrade the ECU and then, how I would go about determining what to upgrade to.

The WOT maps are open loop, so they have fixed fueling and timing.
As you've changed the airflow with a cam, I'd guess you're rich in the midrange and lean up top.

Before you swap the entire ECU, you should look at a "chip" tune. I would only trust an old head tuner for chip swaps, lest you be given an off the shelf Dinan clone.
Personally I'd contact Mark D (https://dsylva-tech.ca) and see if he has anything specific for your ECU and cam setup.

You could go down the road of a standalone ECU, but that will require hardware and wiring changes, and is probably overkill for your needs.

Me, I'd stick a wideband oxygen sensor on it, and see what's happening.

          THEN go from there.

Not a bad idea. Maybe the factory WOT tune is sufficiently rich to handle the extra airflow?

often the idle timing needs some fudging amongst other things when the cam is bigger so there is slightly more to it than the AFR are ok therefore GTG
