no start on new build m20

    just checking for guidance.
fresh build m20, pretty much everything has been apart and touched.

    suspect pump.

engine turns healthy with spark but no fuel. jumpered pump but could not confirm it running. it probably sat too long. rail got wet but that was it. haven't t'd a gauge but there's not gonna be pressure judging by the lack of fuel at rail. will probably t one after a pump change.

have not heard the pump since first key, and it was not long enough for a prime imo. no fuel from pressure side. pulled rail hose and jarred it but did not get fuel on a key on with jumper. no return either from fpr of course.

relay should be ruled out by the jumper but could still be an issue later. fuse is good. have spark so cps and dme should be good.

have a new filter but not installed. old one in car for now.

can't get a walbro or tre 255lph pump local. i'm in total bass ackword woods here. best can do is a delphi (chinesium) equivalent local that is the jobber part for the mustang equivalent. probably gonna give it a shot to get going.

asking to see if anyone suspects anything other than fuel pump.

delphi jobber kit is the cheap walbro knockoff. current plan is to install same as the walbro diy and hope lol.
if anyone has any other ideas i'd like to hear them.

    thanks guys.

When I suspect fuel delivery, I whip out the trusty can of starting fluid, give 'er a squirt, and see if things improve.

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

thanks for the advice. it sorta echoes a local conversation i been having.
short answer is they didn't recommend it on a new build but was ok to try get an old one going. to be frank i didn't think there's a pile of difference.

goal is get it to fire and run long enough to be sure the new rings seat. i think it wants to run just by how healthy it turned. i'm pissed at myself for not bringing a fuel pump in on spec as i knew it had sat too long.

This is a single pump setup I assume? I was going to offer my spare Pierburg external if you had the 2 pump setup. I bought it during my road trip thinking my fuel pump was gonna die on me but it didn't.

just an update ... gonna pick up a mustang walbro equivalent spectra sp1148 and strainer. it runs 32-33gph which is the same as the 255lph the walbro does.

got the mustang part and did the mods to get it in. kept most of the original hanger including the foot but opened up the larger hole.

if it gives me fuel we're going for a first start probably tomorrow. i been trying to figure if the pump primes on at key on / acc position. we tested the connector at the tank and only had power in full start position with the starter turning.

the fuel pump only runs when the engine is running/cranking with the factory Motronic ECU.

i figured that out. i've seen countless threads that stated the pump would prime. i've got it going but its rough. there are bigger issues now lol.
