'87 325i Crank No Start - No ICV Buzz

    Hey R3V-

I've been tinkering with an '87 325i that I pulled out of a field.

I have power at c101 pins 6&7, 12v at pin 30 on main relay, 12v at coil.

I do not have power at the ICV, and thus am getting no ICV buzz.

Main relay and DME have been swapped with several known good ones. No spark/fuel/power at ICV

It's an '87 325i, so it has the oddball engine harness with integrated injector harness.

I also redid the oil pan to frame ground wire and cleaned all of the contacts. Battery is new.

I fully removed both 13 button OBC harnesses and black relay box as well to eliminate that potential issue.

The no power at ICV is throwing me off as it gets direct power from main relay, per this diagram. I also noticed the retaining ring on the diagnostic connector was removed and sitting in the engine bay, so someone may have been trying to troubleshoot this previously.

    Ideas?

should start without a working icv. solve for fuel and spark first. points back to the cps.

The worry isn't that the ICV isn't working- it's about why there isn't voltage getting to it, which is highly likely related to why the car isn't starting.

I am thinking it's ground or engine harness related at this point.

          FIXED

I wasn’t getting power to pin 27 at the dme connector which I saw went to the c104.

Which is when I realized that when deleting 13 button OBC on an early car you have to pull down the unused male end of the c104 that is shoved up by the cruise control and plug it into the c104, which on a 13 button OBC car is normally part of that sub harness.

Deleting 13 button OBC on late cars you have to join the two green wires under the dash on the drivers side that the 13 button OBC harness plugs into, which doesn’t exist on the early cars.

          The more ya know

Thanks for posting the solution. Ran into something similar several years ago tracing an issue on a friend's car. This link helped. https://bmwe30network.net/forums/read.php?3,5624

Figure I'll keep your insight in the same reference category.
