    New rebuild m20b25 knocks/rattles

Hello. I have just put in a rebuilted M20b25 in my e30. According to seller all sealings, bearings, piston rings have changed. The cylinders have been honed. New rod and main bearings. Alonost every bits in the cylinder head are new. I have photos of it all. the motor started up perfect but at 1500-2500 there is as a loud rattle/knocking noise coming from inside of the engine. Nothing to hear at idle. I have checked to see if it is the rod bearings by pulling the spark plug core each and listen if the sound stops. I have just have an endoscop camera down through the spark plug holes to see if anything are dropped inside the cylinders. But nothing there. Anyone who have an idea what it can be?? Sadly i can’t post videos because there are wrong file-type (iphone-videos)

could be a bad engine / spun bearing. you won't see it from inside the cylinders. you'll have to drop the pan to check. how much do you trust that seller? you might've got pics for a different build if that's what you were going on.

Yeah i know. And unfortunatly i cant trust the seller. He won’t do anything. Offcourse he got hus money. I also think i have to drop the oil pan to see if i can find the problem there. I bought the engine so that i shouldn’t do the bearing job. ☹️

never buy a rebuilt engine unless you can verify or it comes with a warranty. if it's knocking i seriously doubt he bothered to open it. a scummy shop here was pulling the same scam with used ls engines claiming they'd rebuilt them.

Did the engine come pre-primed from the seller? If no, did you prime it? How long did it take to start after you turned the key for the very first time?
