Just want to cut labor. I like to concentrate on what really works.

        Is this faulty thinking?

        Thanks

Yeah I'd definitely do the whole thing.

But if you really don't want to, hear a self-explanatory pic:

Are you buying new rockers? The new ones, as long as OE parts, should be fine for 7k RPM's. They were made with a denser cast and a thicker rocker shaft mounting area, from what I understand.

Maybe leaving them unpolished would be better.... rougher cast surface = greater surface area?

polishing them is a good idea actually.

xray to check for porousity, polish and/or shot peen..

polishing removes lines where strees can build, yes?

JGood: are you saying that the NEW oem rocker are different/better than the origionals, other than just being new?

From what I understand they were upgraded. Jordan had more specific info he posted here a while ago I think, try searching, I'm 99% sure there's info about it on this board somewhere.

                        exactly

even if you paid for the service, you'd have stronger rockers for far less than typical billets.

Like what they do with connecting rods, getting rid of any casting marks, and smoothing out the surface will deny cracks a starting place. Shot peening is a process in which steel shot bombards the part to compact the outer surface to further this even more, and relaxes the surface similar to heat treating (somewhat)
Metric Mechanic has (or had) the article on the Febi rocker arms vs the BMW brand rockers, the fork length, thickness, porosity etc...
