M42 radiator fitment

    M42 radiator fitment

    Well ive searched a bit and cant seem to find the answer im looking for.

    If oyu get a M42 rad to clean up the engine bay..what hoses do i need to hookup and to where?

    the M42 rad has a upper and lower radiator hose and a hose that goes to the bottom of the tank...can i just match these to the hoses going and coming from my stock system in my late model "i" car?




    I wan tot get rid of the overflow tank in my car, ive got a manualr steering rack that is goin in and i want to remove the non-functional AC as well (its a vert)


    Also anyone knwo if i can remove the front pulley from the crank without issues? Dont think ill need it anymore

          after talking with these guys looks like you need a hose splicer to make it work and a coolant level sensor from a M44 equpped car

          I looked on real oem of the sensor (threadsinto bottom of tank blak plastic) but it wasnt listed for most cars i looked at. Anyone got a part number?

                  I at one time thought about going the other way, with my m42 to a radiator with a different tank system, so that it would be easier to bleed

                    Well the info so far: For late model

                    Buy M42 rad from ebay or used
                    buy above part from E36 whatever (this is the coolant level sensor)
                    remove coverplate from bottom of m42 rad and insert above part (you now have coolant level monotoring)
                    Buy hose splicer fitting from auto parts store that is same size as hose come from bottom of existing resivior (square thing mounted in engine bay)
                    Install M42 rad and connect upper and lower hoses

                    This is where i get fuzzy:
                    use splicer to connect feed tube from old res to new rad mountd res?


                    Optional:

                    Remove pulley driven Fan and connect relay from low temp feed for AC electric fan. You now have no pulley fan and are using the existing electric fan to cool the engine when it is hot outside.

                    Have i got this all correct?

                      Is "9" in the diagram what secures the top of the radiator? My M42 rad's just sort of sitting there and secured with zipties, because the top securing points are different between the M42/late model and early model (my chassis).

                        I want as little goin on in there as possible. I got a manual rack im putting in to remove the PS stuff and I am also removing the non-functional AC equipment. THE fan and cooling system would be the icing on the cake.

                          yea "9" is the Rad hold down in late model cars, attached with 2 bolts to the front clip and has 2 rubber bushes to hold rad in place

                            ..Wait, you actually went out and spent money on a 4.7 fuck-all turn lock-to-lock manual rack? Being a man and going with a quicker one too much to ask? ;)

                              Hmm, I'll have to look into that. Zipties work, but they're not exactly the cleanest install. Thanks man.
