    I "think" I read that in one of the Pete McHenry Roundel M20 articles. May want to ask Stu. BMW would not change a part design if they didn't think it was necessary.

    The stock valvetrain seems to be fine to the 6900 rpm limit of most chips other than the occasional broken rocker arm. A 0.030" shim isn't going to change the open and closed rates very much but you could crunch he numbers if you wanted to know the exact change.

      Well then I guess to be on the safe side:

      Does anyone have a late model cam sprocket they wouldn't mind parting with?

        don't use the stamped-steel cam gear. get the cast one. The stamped ones are a failure point. there's a TSB on it too.

        I have an extra I could sell.
