ahh, found it. Should have the crank back by Friday and even if all the parts don't get here i will lay it in and spin it. If for nothing else to make sure my Machinist took enough off to clear the piston.
I will try to remember to drop it and spin it in my toasted 2.5 block as well. Just for arguement sake.
Thanks

you don't want to see pics of this car... paid $300.00 for her. She was supposed to be my youngest daughters "college" car. Until i brought it home, then she wanted a truck... so i now have an 89 3251 sedan.
I needed an around the town car anyway... so here i am fixing to slap a b28 crank in her for a fun little ride.
I will take pics of the out of the norm stuff. I have already posted some pics of different piston heights and things like that. Eventually, when I get done I hope to get numbers on the motor and then put up a list of parts and prices for this build. But, you may want to tag this thread as I am in no rush as I have plenty of worldly things that take priority over the car.
Thanks for the interest though.Last edited by rvaughnp; 05-14-2010, 05:05 PM.

Got the crank back.
2.8 (L) - 2.7 (C) - 2.5 (R)
It appears to have a lot of "meat" taken off... but actually its the cut in the counter weight off the center of the crank out on the edges that are factory made different. You can see how the 2.7 is molded at 1 & 5 o'clock where as the 2.8 is more 2 & 4 o'clock.
The are essentially the same diameter from cl rod journal the cl counter weight.
I will try to weigh them to get the difference... i can tell from just picking them up that the 2.8 is a bit lighter (edited: it weighs 42#); 5 or so pounds.
Here is the piston at TDC. So, if all measurement are calculated b28 crank, b27 rod, b25 piston that puts this top at 206.2 even with the the deck.
HInd sight says i should have weighed the original to find out how much was taken (weight wise). maybe some has an original that could weigh theirs and i could just edit mine for future reference. i will weigh it... i just have to find a scale that works... my wife has been telling me that ours shows 10#'s more than what it should be.Last edited by rvaughnp; 11-26-2011, 05:01 PM.

Just got Head back and a clean (dipped) manifold.
Head had one bad intake and exhaust. Got new seals, 3 angle(which he stated was standard), 30 deg backcut.
Got a set of Top Street King headers. A lot of people berate the Ebay headers but these look ok, especially for $165.
Upon picking up my manifold and intake my machinist gave me a price of $150 to ceramic coat the headers.
I don't see why these are crap. I hope thay aren't.
Anyway... now i have all the majoe parts done and ready to reassemble, it's time. It still will take me alittle while because of my extra life things, and i didn't bag and mark over 50 nuts and bolts. Good thing I enjoy puzzles. lol.
Next, of course, is the ceramic coating then the miller pac, then misc as i go, water pump and such.
I am still wavering on the 272. Probably will just haven't convinced myself yet.
Hope everyone is good. I look forward to getting this thing together.

Sorry guys... had to move on. I bought an 84' 633 in Nov of 2010 and started on that, as that was to be my car. By the time i got her running, one year later, i lost interest in getting the 3 series going for my daughter and decided to just buy her a running vehicle.
I am selling the parts off and if the purchaser will allow and has started a rebuild thread i will link it here. I know there is another poster that has done the 2.8 stroker build using the m52 crank, 2.7 rod, 2.5 piston/stock parts stocker.
