Careful man. I had that unexplainable hesitation in my m42 and now I have an m20. I kept thinking I had fixed it and would go test it and it would come back and on one of those little test runs I spun a rod bearing (actually I'm not sure of that, I'm only sure that I ended up with a terrible tapping sound). In the end I have a gut feeling it was my cps, but I'll never really know.

      cap/rotor...

I had this happen on my s10 ( i know not an e30) but it was fine then just cut out all of a sudden. I replaced those pieces and it was good as gold

this is happening to my car also, was driving to work the other morning when I accelerated it boggged down, then accelerated then bogged down then accelerated then bogged down. otw back home today it did it again. It never cut out and died but kinda weird.
Red-ish 89 325ix with dent in the door, bad paint, missing center caps, broken defrost, broken ac, p/s pump may be going, brake pad sensors missing. On the plus side i just had the trannie and tc fixed for 2 grand!!

This symptom can very much be the AFM output is bad.

Here is a o-scope capture of a bad AFM. Notice the drops to zero volts when blipping the throttle. These are considered dead spots and can happen anywhere on the range of the AFM output. Usually near the idle section but I have seen drops on the 70-100% throttle portion of the AFM feedback.

Once serviced, by me, the output is much cleaner with zero drops to zero.

PM me for fully refurbished and bench tested AFM's.

            video of the problem

here's the video and i'm too poor to just start replacing things. I've got too many ideas of what it might be..

(can't figure out how to embed video, i'm too old)
