Careful man. I had that unexplainable hesitation in my m42 and now I have an m20. I kept thinking I had fixed it and would go test it and it would come back and on one of those little test runs I spun a rod bearing (actually I'm not sure of that, I'm only sure that I ended up with a terrible tapping sound). In the end I have a gut feeling it was my cps, but I'll never really know.

This symptom can very much be the AFM output is bad.
Here is a o-scope capture of a bad AFM. Notice the drops to zero volts when blipping the throttle. These are considered dead spots and can happen anywhere on the range of the AFM output. Usually near the idle section but I have seen drops on the 70-100% throttle portion of the AFM feedback.
Once serviced, by me, the output is much cleaner with zero drops to zero.
PM me for fully refurbished and bench tested AFM's.Owner - Bavarian Restoration
