    M20 seized?

Looking at a car on cl. Dude says the motor is frozen but has always run oil and adjusted the valves so he doesn't sound like a complete noob. Can the mechanical oil pump fail? I've never heard of it. What else can cause a motor to seize? I think it's just the starter might be frozen to the flywheel as the guy said you can hear the starter "click"

Take a 22 mm wrench to the crank bolt.

Starter solonoid could be bad too.

WTF? Getting to that bolt is like a 2 second process.

Just stick your head under the hood with a wrench and see if it turns, he doesn't need to know exactly what you're doing.

EDIT: the starter click could be a bad starter, or bad wiring, or almost dead battery. To make an informed decision, you just need to know if the engine is locked up or not- that should help determine how much the car is worth to you.

You know what can cause a motor to seize?

A leaky headgasket filling the cylinder with coolant while it's sitting.. Pull the spark plugs and then try to crank with the starter, wrench, or ratchet.

Make sure you don't do it inside their garage though. They tend to get angry.

Thanks guys I could care less about the head gasket being bad. If it is then all the important maintenance gets done right off the bat and keeps my lazy white ass from procrastinating

I could have sworn the crank bolt was a pita to get to...

                    Of course it can fail.

Could also have a broken timing belt...

                            I vote timing belt...

                            Piston><valve=no bueno

when you try starting it, remove the oil filler cap and look for any cam movement.

If you want to turn it over more easily, pull out the park plugs.

Broken timing belt = bent valves or damage to pistons.
