Car cranks but won't start - It started!!!!!!

This is what I have checked - 1986e

    -gas

-gas pump - it does not sound on key position 1 in but after some reading it says that until the car start cranking (position 2) then the pump start. not sure if this correct.

-K7 is fine - electrical windows work and it does not seem that the ground is the problem

The background is that i swap the dash and i checked everything prior installing the new dash (and the car started_ no problem it start at the first try) and after i finish installing the dash then it did not start.

PO had an alarm an the alarm has 2 slot to install fuses. What i remember is taking a broken 10 amp fuse from one of the slots and the other one did not had any. Now i install a 10 amp on one of the slot and it beeps when I try the same fuse on the other slot it did not beep. Therefore i left the fuse at the slot that beeps.

Forgot add that the car has not been driving since I'm working on the interior and some exterior. Therefore I only start the car several time to avoid draining the battery.

    Any help is appreciated

OK, Next is looking into the DME and fuel relays - ok just install 2 new relays but no luck - it just crank but wont start.

There has been no suggestions because you have not checked some basic functions when you have a no start. Have you check for fuel pressure, spark, or vacuum leak?

Check for spark first. Then if u have no spark check fuel. If u don't have those check ur cps. U have an eta so u have 2 of them. U can ground I think its pin 30 to see if ur fuel pump kicks on.

                Still cranks but no start.
                -have spark
-both CPS sensors are good (already tested) one is 900+ and the other is 1000+
                -replaced fuel relay and fuse
                -both pumps are new
                -no fuel to rail
-will a fuse link be my culprit? since no power to DME???

This is the condition of the fuselink and I think it is ok. The car was starting before and during the dash swap it was after the dash swap that the problem started. The alarm had (2) 10 amp fuse and i left it in. The alarm sounds that it arms when there is power present and it seems once the key is in it disarm (but not sure) also it has so many wires connected that I do not know what to do. Therefore I removed the alarm fuses and the car cranks but will not start, sme with or without the alarm.
                I'm lost now?? F***k (I feel frustrated)

You mention that the car has an aftermarket alarm. It may be interrupting power to the fuel pumps.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

If the alarm is inop, which is probably is, the first thing to do would be to completely remove the alarm and revert the car's wiring back to stock. The wiring diagrams at http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm will be helpful. Basically it is a matter of tracing each wire from the alarm, figuring out what it is connected to, and undoing what was done during the alarm installation. Kind of a tedious job.

What is the metal box above the alarm that the cables are hooked up to? so I could reference on the electrical manual.

The only thing is that the car used to start and run fine. It was until the dash was swapped the that the problem started. I hooked all the electrical before I install the new dash and after i remove the old one in order to test and everything was running fine. Then I un-hook everything and install the new dash and re-hooked all the connectors; then i had the problem that the car did crank but did not start.

What could I have missed or hook back wrong?

I am a very good peson with electronics, electrical work, and computers in general.....mechanical is my downfall...

You mentioned the alarm had a blow fuse in it, once replaced, it wouldn't stop beeping....and now it doesn't start.

Do what Jlevie says and remove the alarm...or at the least retrace the entire wiring setup of the alarm and make sure its done right...thoroughly
