Need Help removing Oil gear

So I'm doing a complete engine rebuild on my iX and I've stripped out everything but this damn gear. The gear is on the bottom of the inside of the block. The gear takes turning power from the belt and directs it (by shaft) to the oil pump. Does anyone know how to remove it. <or direct me to where I can find a DIY on it.

It must come out, the block is going to a furnace for cleaning.

WEll from the second photo it looks like you need to remove that 10 or 13mm bolt to remove it right?

It looks like the cap (on the bottom outside) should be pried off. But I just don't know... plus I only have ONE block to try it on ONCE!

By the way Chruby, your engine looks way cleaner than mine. How many miles on it?

remove the bolt and the holder will come off.

then the cap should come out; its held in place by the O-ring

Mine is a little over 150,000 miles. West coast car with no rust. Reno has very little humidity.Have yet to brake a bolt on this one. I come from the rust belt back east so I know what the east coast guys have to deal with working on rusty cars. I did not know there were so many iXs here in Reno until I bought mine. I now know of at least 8 locally.

I will have to pry that cap a little more. I pulled the holding clamp and pryed on the button, but it is on good. If I do tear it up there is a few more caps at the local pick and pull.

How far are you going on your rebuild. I am settling on a re-ring with new bearings and seals.

don't worry about marring the top too much, the seal is much lower inside the bore.
