885 is the casting number, after casting the bare head is machined and this can be slightly different (dont SETA have some oil holes missing?) and the parts assembled can also be different (camshaft, valve springs etc can differ)

i have an 86 head on my 89 325i, I also have an 89 head stripped down. The casting is different between the two. more or so looks cosmetic. Still bolt up the same, dare say bmw superseeded the design to another manufacturer in the 80s. unsure if ports vary but externally they look slightly different

The are slight casting differences depending on years but it's not a big deal.

The Super Eta being different is true. They had the Eta valve springs and a Super Eta specific cam.

Not all Super Eta cars were missing the oil passages, only some. Not hard to add though.
