well I see now... like old v8's cam gets fed into the motor?

the cam doesnt lift out. it slides forward. forward means you need to lift the engine several inches before it will come out.

it is possible to remove the cam without removing the head. take stuff at the front near radiator etc off and loosen the mounts so you can lift engine a bit
