    What oil do you run???

Hey, just bought my first E30 last month and finally have enough money to do a full tune up. I'm about to change the oil, the current oil in it is castrol gtx 10-30 I want to change it to 15-40 castrol because I hear good things. But a friend of mine highly suggests rotella. What are your thoughts and or comments to the oil or rotella in general.

    Please and thank you

I prefer Valvoline VR1 20w-50 due to its high zinc content, but Castrol GTX is good as well. I know people use Rotella, but I've never tried it.

In colder climate, use Rotella 15W40 year round. In warmer climate you can use 20W50.

oil is like the old jewish joke, "ask two jews, get three opinions". there's enough different kinds out there that people will argue forever without any good information supporting any particular choice.

that said, a common thinking is to run oil with a high ZDDP content, which theoretically functions better for engines with flat tappets/rockers like the M10/M20/M30. Examples are VR1, Kendall GT-1 and various kinds of diesel oil.

Mobile Delvac 15w40. Like Rotella but better liked in the diesel world. I like having the same oil for my duramax and tractor as I do my E30s...... also it's 12.99 for 5 quart jugs at wally world.

See above links, I've probably given my answer in one or more of those threads. If not, I'll share it here.

Castrol GTX 20w50 summer, 10w40 winter.

Boosted car gets Rotella T6. I will probably switch to liquimoly because I can get it cheaper.

mobil 15-w50. Look in the back of the owners manual, it has a chart of the oil you should use based on the temperatures you have. In MA it is sometimes very hot and sometimes very cold so 15w50 covers all the bases. For your climate it may be different
