Does anyone know how a 2002 weighs in with an M20? Power to weight should be pretty good.

the engine will make the same hp, but you might get different value at the wheels due to different gearing, friction, drivetrain inertia, wheel and tire combination...

Yes, the 168MM ring and pinion should have a smaller drag value - I would randomly guess about 3-5%.

It will weigh 50 lbs more than it did before you put the M20 in,
so anywhere from 1850 to 2450 depending on where you started.

More importantly, it will have a bunch more torques. Tons more torques.

                And you will grin.

And then your diff will grenade, and you'll add another 50 lbs in back going to a mid- case diff.

The difference between small and medium diffs is a lot closer to 10kg/22lb.

Howabout adding those axles and custom subframe? Toby's accounting for more than just the diff.

I see. Just sounds like a lot of weight but I guess it adds up quick when using American units of measurement.

The cases alone are about 40 lbs different- the 2002 case weighs 42-44 lbs, and
the E30 case weighs 83-88 lbs. It IS a heavy little sucker.
There are significant variations in both cases- the LSD small case weighs more,
the E21 early case weighs more, the late E21 case weighs more than THAT.

I think there are several variations in the E30 case, too, but I've only dropped the
                        4.11 LSD version on myself.

It's really surprising how different they are, I agree. I used to swap the 2002's
at the track pretty easily in about an hour.
I do NOT attempt the same thing with the E30!

very early E24/28/30 diff cases are heavier.
late model z3 188mm cases are lightest.
