Well I'm pretty sure my ICV is failing, anyone rebuild these?

    Well I'm pretty sure my ICV is failing, anyone rebuild these?

    i have an L-shaped ICV that is causing my idle to hunt a lot and set off the check engine light. which while not only costs 400$ but is also back ordered. i don't have that kind of money or that kind of time. SO does anyone rebuild these things or is there another cheaper option that i don't know about. Also I've tried cleaning it, its spotless inside but my idle still sucks and i still have a check engine light. thanks for the help guys

      I've tried a couple of times to do it and i can never get it to flash. i think i must have a 153 because my car is an early 88 build date.

        Having a vacuum leak is much more common than a ICV failing. Try measuring the impedance of the leads in the connector. The Bentley manual has a good procedure.

        The ICV should buzz with car off, ign on. If you pull the ICV, the inner door should easily move around in a rotational motion open and close.

          The car didn't have this problem until I lifted the motor to change the mounts a couple of days ago, could vac leaks be bad enough to throw a check engine light though?

              This is a symptom of a bad TPS which could also relate to your idle and CEL.
              Check your ECU.

                okay so i tried to do the stomp test and it won't give me the code, so i will be checking the ecu tomorrow morning. i did notice that the second i turned the key to the on position the ICV kinda clicked and started buzzing softly i take it this is a good thing?

                    So it turns out i do have a 173 which makes me wonder why I've never been able to do the stomp test correctly. i took the intake and throttle assembly apart and found that my TPS is half way melted could that be it? Also the throttle body gasket fell apart the instant i pulled off the throttle body. the intake boot also looks fine and none of the vac lines look bad.

                    also im not sure what that hose is it was just hanging off the bottom of the throttle body and it has a massive hole in it

                      Also can I replace that boot with a vac hose, it was hanging off the bottom of the throttle body

                        That hose goes to the carbon canister. It should have a inline purge valve between the throttle body and carbon canister. There is also a plug for the purge valve. I'm sure that was causing a big ass vacuum leak.

                            That isn't melted, it's just covered in dirt and oil. Try scraping it off. Bet it comes right off.

                            If your TPS isn't working or isn't adjusted correctly, the stomp test won't work as the ECU needs to see a throttle closed and WOT signal. If it doesn't see one or the other (or both) it won't work.

                              You can replace that old beat up hose with part # 13311288284 Just cut it to the same size
